Book Description

2 Oct 2005
The Hidden Places of Northumberland & Durham has been
extensively updated and contains a wealth of interesting information on the
history, the countryside, the towns and villages and the many places of
interest such as churches, monuments, cathedrals, castles and great
mansions. This beautifully illustrated guide explores Northumberland &
Durham in a relaxed narrative style by guiding the reader to some of the
established visitor attractions but also focusing on the more secluded and
little known places of interest and places to stay, eat and drink.

Review

"A terrific source of information and ideas" -- Durham County Life Magazine

"All you need to know about this beautiful area" -- Caravan Magazine

"There are some splendid photographs showing the beauty of our
area, making each page colourful and interesting" -- The Teesdale Mercury

From the Publisher

Northumberland has much to offer the visitor with the Cheviot
Hills, the Kielder Forest Park, Hadrian's Wall and the North Northumberland
Heritage Coast which, of course includes Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island and
the Farne Islands. County Durham has a rich industrial heritage
particularly in mining, steel and shipbuilding some of which is now in the
relatively new county of Tyne & Wear, but it also possesses the historical
city of Durham with its magnificent cathedral and castle, and to the north
the beautiful scenery of Weardale, Teesdale and the Northern Pennines.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for tourists 1 Feb 2009
We purchased this book prior to a short break in Northumberland with family and found it essential as we were quite unfamiliar with the area. It gave us plenty of ideas on what to see & do, where to eat & drink and lots of tips. Overall a great buy and would highly recommend.
