Product Description

Review

'It is particularly enjoyable because of its easy narrative style that does not prevent it from packing in a lot of information. It remains a useful addition to a guide book collection, for local people as well as visitors' - The Westmorland Gazette 'Easy to read facts on the more interesting and unusual aspects of each town and village visited with clear directions to places and easy to use locator maps' - Grange Now 'It's a wonderful and useful book. They've listed all the popular tourist spots with clarity and detail. Its well laid out in full colour and is comprehensively indexed. The writing is sharp and concise. This is a must-have publication for locals and tourists' - Whitehaven News --Previous Edition --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Product Description

The 8th edition of this attractively illustrated guide to The Lake District and Cumbria is packed with information on the more secluded and less well-known visitor attractions and includes places to eat, drink and stay as well as covering the more established places of interest.

Although the half the book lists accommodation and places to eat, the rest of the book gives good detail albeit short and punchy. If you think of buying this for a long read, don't. If however you want to get an insight into finding something of interest and where to visit do buy it.

Not Very Hidden 3 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback
How can locations such as Tarn Hows, Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre, Beatrix Potter's Hill Top, Furness Abbey, etc, etc, all be described as "Hidden Places of the Lake District"?? They are among the most popular tourist spots in the region. This and all the advertising make for a very disappointing book.

Don't Waste Your Money 23 July 2006
By Milkweed - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Don't be fooled by this so-called "book" -- one quarter of the space is taken up with cleverly-distinquished ads for guest houses and the like. If you didn't read the fine print, you might be fooled into thinking that the author was recommending these places, but they paid to be there.

The rest of the text is pretty basic, and not very detailed. The Rough Guide to the Lakes District is MUCH, MUCH better -- better researched, more detailed, and more objective.
Too commercial; too abbreviated 13 July 2007
By J. S. Blum - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have purchased 5 books to help me with an upcoming trip to the Lake District and this is the one book I would have passed on. The book has commercial advertisements which detract from the book. Also, the restaurant and hotel recoommendations are sparce. Skip this book and buy Rough Guide instead.
