Want to get more out of your Egyptian holiday or Nile cruise then you need this guide to Luxor. You have done the Karnak, Valley of Kings, Valley of Queens & temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahri and you have another week, what is there to see in Luxor? Jane takes you to her Hidden Luxor, all the place you didn’t know existed. Tombs and temples no one goes to. The temple of Karnak is the largest religious site in the world and now you can explore it all. The White Chapel of Senusret I in the Open Air Museum is the most beautiful object in Egypt, easily rivalling the tomb of Seti I or Nefertari. Want to know where to find it and others like the Botanical Room or tombs of the Nobles like Senenmut or Ramose where you can see decoration done during the reign of the heretic Pharaoh Akhenaton removed by the vengeful priests of Amun. Explore the battles of Ramses the Great at the Ramasseum site of the famous Shelly poem about Ramses II. Jane helps you enjoy ALL Luxor has to offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT HELP IN EXPLORING LUXOR 5 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I bought Jane's "Hidden Luxor" before I spent four weeks there last December - January 2012-13. This was my second visit. Most tour guides give you basically the same information about the most common tourist sites. I had seen these and wanted to see more. I found this book most beneficial in helping me find places and things that I had missed on my first visit. Every night as I planned my next day I referred to Jane's book to be sure I added "hidden Luxor" to the places I wanted to find and explore. I highly recommend this book as a must for the serious traveler to Luxor as well as the average tourist who wants to see more of this magical city. Hidden Luxor

5.0 out of 5 stars worth every penny! 8 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Although the title alludes to places that are hidden in Luxor there are many that the tour guides will take you to in this book, but you will also find that at these places eg:Karnak there are many secret parts that you will never be shown by them.
Places included in this book are Karnak, Luxor Temple, Temple of Hatshepsut, Medinet Habu, Merenptah, Ramasseum, Deir El Medina, Seti I Temple, various Tombs, and many more.
There is plenty of information about how to find each hidden place, with a brief history just to wet your appetite.
This book is a hidden gem and I cannot wait to go back and explore hidden Luxor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Egypt my dream place 22 May 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was just what I wanted, having been to Luxor several times and seen the "usual" tourist sites, I wanted something a little more obscure. Well it certainly delivered. Jane Akshar not only invites you to explore a little deeper into this amazing civilization, but encourages you with her wealth of knowledge and her love and enthusiasm for Egypt, without it becoming too indepth (which can lead to boring). Her personalith comes over in this book and I love it.

For the independent traveller this is a handy book to have written in Jane's inimitable style. She guides you through some of the less well visited parts of the main sites and also introduces the hidden corners of the west bank. Hidden Luxor is exactly what you get. My only gripe was I would have liked a location map of some of the West Bank sites for when I plan my next visit. Hidden Luxor will be my guide through some of these sites.
