Book Description

Book Three, Just Between Friends:

Walking home from the beach, Lucy and Serena come upon a little dog that is hurt and lost—and had no ID tags. Lucy's living in a "no dogs allowed" cottage and Serena's dad is allergic. But they can't leave the poor thing where it is! So the girls devise a secret temporary scheme ... that could mean trouble. Things get even messier when they discover the dog is about to have puppies. Who will take care of all of these dogs?

The days are slipping by and they are likely to be caught. Will they figure it out in time or will the dogs be at risk? Can Jake, and Sweet Dreams, come to the rescue?

Book Four, Take A Bow:

For this week's Diary Deed, Lucy and Serena must face their fears. Lucy decides the upcoming Island Art Fair is the perfect opportunity for nervous Serena to display her art. Serena's not so sure ... Then Serena comes up with her own idea for Lucy's Diary Deed. But the dread of embarrassing herself in public may be too much for Lucy to handle.

Each of the four, two-book volumes in this exciting series for girls aged 8-12 includes: fun, friends, family, gentle Christian faith, and a fast-paced read.

"...Sure to become popular summertime reading for middle-grade girls. Revolving around the theme of best friends and a secret diary, this book has definite girl appeal as Byrd demonstrates her uncanny ability of writing from the heart of an almost-12-year old." CBA Marketplace (Review of first book in series.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Diary Vol 2- Recommended for all young girls 5 Dec. 2011
By Reviewer"Lynn" - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
Originally the Hidden Diary Series consisted of 8 books. With the re-issue of the series into e-book format the author has combined 2 books into one to make it a 4 book series.. In the first book we had the first two stories in the series. In volume 2 we find books 3 and 4 of the original series , Just Between Friends and Take A Bow.

In the first book we met Lucy and Serena as they read the diary that Lucy had found and was written by Serena's grandmother. As they are trying to do each week what was written many years ago this week they were to help someone that was in trouble. Well it just so happens they come across an injured dog who is about to give birth to puppies. Serena cannot take her and Lucy is not allowed pets in the home they are staying in. but she sneaks her in anyway. Now the trouble seems to have follow on them. Who can take care of the dog? Who can they give the puppies to? What about food and vet care? But in the end everything works out fine as Lucy learns to trust in God.
In Take a bow, the main idea of the story like is trying to help each other overcome a fear they have. With a trip to Knotts Berry Farm, Lucy things she can help Serena get over her fear of scary rides but she soon finds out pushing could break up their friendship. With the art festival coming up that weekend, Lucy tries to push Selena into entering and Likewise Serena get Lucy to play the piano. It shows faith can overpower their fears as each girl faces them.

Once again I felt this to be a great lesson learned on how we need to learn to trust not only in our families and friends but to put our trust in God. This took me back about 52 years when I read about the girls going to Knotts Berry Farm. Seems I spent many many weekends there. I am thoroughly enjoying this series of books and would like to thank the author for giving me the chance to read them. A positive review was not required and all opinions are my own impression of the book.

This was a wonderful book for girls, but also for anyone who loves girls; and who does that exclude? It was a satisfying continuation of the story and continued to develop the characters very nicely. Keep up the good work, Sandra.
