I got these boots just after Christmas '09, after trying them on in the shop whereupon they felt very comfortable and supportive. On my first couple of scrambles along the beaches and rocks where I live, I noticed the tops around my ankle were digging in, but after a week of 'breaking them in' that went and they now feel superb.
Most recently we hiked up High Wilhayes in Dartmoor, during the 'big freeze' which hit the UK. It was about minus 15 on the summit, with around a foot of snow covering the tussocks, rocks and marshy moors. After this strenuous four hour snow hike, my feet were bone dry and felt great. I cannot understand why a previous reviewer on here had problems with wet feet after walking accross wet moorland - unless his feet were completely submerged for extended periods.
The type of hiking I like to do is energetic and fast, with plenty of scrambling, jumping, clambering over rocks and whatever else gets in the way. These boots offer great grip and stability and give me a great sense of freedom when I am outdoors. They are also smart enough to wear in the pub afterwards!
I'm very pleased with the Fasthike II and we've plenty more hikes planned for the rest of winter. Maybe in summer I can see these boots getting too hot, I'll probably add a pair of low rise approach shoes then.
In summary, they look great, keep my feet dry and toasty, are super comfortable to wear and give great protection when pushing yourself hard. I'd say these would be a good boot for energetic hikers who like to mix things up.
