Hi, after reading the reviews, I chose to go in for a pair of the Hi-Tec Men's Altitude IV WP shoes on Friday. The order was despatched promptly and I received the shoes first thing on Monday morning and turned out exactly as advertised - correct size, light; sturdy and waterproof; full marks for the delivery service. The timing too was fortuitous. We had our fair share of snow soon after I got my shoes, and have been using them. Advantages - my feet stay dry, the soles offer a good grip and I have been able to clamber over the most slippery of slopes; the cross strap arrangement makes it very easy to lace up and unlace; the padded ankle support means the ankles do not get scraped; the v-cut in the back of the padded ankle support means the shoe is easy to get on/off; and best of all is the message inside the lid of the shoe box from the CEO of Hi-Tech asking for direct feedback!! So far I have not found any faults or weaknesses and will surely let the CEO know if I have any suggestions. Well done Hi-Tec: wish you more successes.

I bought these boots in 2008 while on a trip to California. And until Christmas 2009, used them for 10 to 20 trips including the Lakes' and short 5-8 mile walks around Wiltshire. Christmas 2009, I started using them more regularly on 10 mile walks every 2 to 3 days to the present day. So there are some good points and bad points.

Pros:
Immediately comfortable from day one
Waterproof up to ankle high - saved me a few times when the ice on boggy fields wasn't quite as thick as it looked!
Achilles cut-out reduces long term strain

Cons:
Waterproofing lasted until Summer 2010: Now, socks are well soaked just from dewy grass unless treated with dubbin each couple of walks.
Original and subsequent laces are over-worn by the eye hooks. Always carry a spare set now.

Overall...brilliant value and for my particular feet, a better fit than then Skarpa Ranger.

Well these are the first pair of Hi-Tec's I have owned and at the moment I am very impressed with them. I read a lot of review s regards walking boots, as I am doing the 3 peaks in June and wanted to own a pair that would do the job with no problems.

I have had these boots for a week or so now and have completed around 50 miles or so in them. Straight out of the box they are comfortable. The extra heal support is very good and the tread gives fantastic grip.

Good points:
VERY comfortable
Steady as a rock on slippy surfaces
Good laces that never slacken up
Waterproof

Not so good points:
Could do with a little eyelet for your gators at the bottom of the laces (personnel preference maybe)
After 4 hours of walking in the snow yesterday the water crept in. Can not really moan about this to much but thought it was worth a mention!

My verdict is 4.5 out of 5. Great boot!!!

Great sturdy boot,I purchased these as I am new to walking and I think I made an excellent choice, they are a reasonable price and do everything they say on the box, waterproof, comfortable, breathable, I have not had any problems with them at all.

I have 'problem feet' but these great boots, identified by HiTec customer relations department as 'wider than normal', are just the job! They arrived very quickly, obviously made of excellent materials and served their purpose well on our first visit to the Cheviot Hills and Kielder Forest. Now looking forward to using them on 'the Leicestershire Round'.

Ok. So I sign up to do the OXFAM Trailtrekker challenge 2012. I have no kit... not a stitch. So I start looking for some boots in Jan 2012 to give me time to train and break them in. I didn't want to spend a fortune just yet, in the event that I do the challenge and then stop hiking/rambling/walking. So I opted on these Hi-Tech Altitude boots after reading some of the reviews on here. My last experience of Hi-Tech was not so good, as a teenager they were the bottom end of the training shoe market with Gola and Dunlop (the latter two seem to be chic these days!!), and as such they fell to bits quite quickly. So I was expecting a few months of walking and then leaks etc.

Up until April they were used every weekend for a 10-20 mile walk in training around the wolds and they held up brilliantly. But, there are no seriously nasty bits in the Wolds. Nothing really to punish them. Until now. As part of my training, myself and some friends did the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge. The weather was atrocious, the terrain both hazardous (rocky and boggy), and treacherous (slippy due to conditions) and they were FANTASTIC. They carried me 24 miles without a blister, with no pain in the arches of my feet. And NO leaking, even in knee deep bogs. They gripped well, and I had no slips resulting in falls. I cannot recomend these Hi-Techs enough. Why pay over the odds for boots when Hi-Tech seem to have got this model so right? Brashers at half the price!

Great boots really comfortable used everyday all day. Far more comfortable than my Brashers and Ecco which cost three times as much. So buy them you won't be disapointed.
