Amazon.co.uk Review
Although Chicago label, Guidance has dabbled in hip-hop and dub, their real speciality has been intricate, sexy deep house. The 10 tracks on the splendid
Imprint 3 showcase the best tracks released on the label between 1998 and 2000. Interestingly--given Guidance's well-established roots in the "dance" scene--the music here is focused on relaxed, jazzy, comedown listening rather than bass-line grooviness for the dance floor. Miami based Homebase open the collection with the dreamy faux-strings led, "Constant Love" but is trumped for ultimate chill-out factor by the mesmerising, sunny "Riveria Paradise" by Venus Attack Project. San Francisco's Dubtribe Sound System go right for the heartstrings with the beautifully syncopated, uplifting classic, "What You Feel In Your Heart". Chris "Wamdue Project" Brann goes undercover as a master of otherworldly sounds with Santal's "Past & Future Things and Nuspirit Helsinki offer us a taste of their bare-bones funk with the lovely "Take It Back". No doubt, Pat Barry's "What You Do" (Solid State Mix), Dino and Terry's "Croque Monsieur", King Britt and poet, Ursula Rucker's spine-tingling "Circe" and
Kevin Yost's piano-tinkling, sublime "Days Like These" will also reward those with a penchant for lush, widescreen funky house.
Imprint 3 is perfect for both messy Sunday morning hangovers and afternoons soaking up the sun. --
