Product Description

This long awaited book coincides with the 30th anniversary of the popular and award winning BBC sitcom, Hi-de-Hi! by Jimmy Perry and David Croft - writers of Dad's Army and It Ain't Half Hot Mum.
Written with full co-operation from the writers and cast members, this full colour book begins with an overview of the holiday camp movement before charting the history of the programme with many anecdotes from those who made and appeared in it.
Many of the images included are from personal collections and have never been seen before.
Cast biographies are included along with a complete episodes guide. Other chapters deal with costumes, the stage musical, behind the scenes and locations to name a few.
It doesn't end there. This is TWO books in one.
Flip the book over and you have a volume on 'You Rang M'Lord?'. This was Jimmy Perry and David Croft's last series, and by far the most sumptuous.
Based on an Edwardian household the show ran for four series before being pulling by the BBC. Running at 50 minutes, each episode was given time to develop.
The 'You Rang M'Lord' section covers all aspects of the series, with many never before seen photographs of the cast and behind the scenes images.
No Hi-de-Hi! or Perry and Croft fan should be without this book.

There are many book written about Perry & Croft's other sitcom 'Dad's Army' - some might say too many, so it's good to see a publication devoted to one of their other classics Hi-de-Hi!
This book is highly informative and is written in a welcoming style, containing many original pictures and anecdotes supplied by the cast and crew.
The book's extended gestation period is evidenced by the number of comments from those who have passsed on, but at the same time it is bang up to date, the death of Felix Bowness who died a week or two before publication is mentioned.
It's nice to see the story seen from the eyes of those who were there at the time and what comes over is that they all had a great time doing the show.
Perry & Croft's last and some might say their best produced programme, You Rang M'Lord? is also covered (by turning over the book). This is an unknown classic. I urge anyone who hasn't seen this programme to buy the box set - it is a feast of old Perry & Croft actors. There is much to read of interest if you are a P&C or general comedy fan (if just for the pictures alone), and this book certainly deserves a (fair sized) space of your bookshelf.

I was lucky enough to be able to buy the Hi-De-Hi Companion in Dovercourt at the 30th anniversary celebration of the sitcom, and the book has definitely exceeded my expectations! It contains everything you've ever wanted to know about Hi-De-Hi and You Rang M'Lord, from info about costumes and filming locations, biographies and behind-the-scenes photos to personal anecdotes from the actors and writers. If you like either of these sitcoms, this is the book for you!

This book is an absolute must for fans of Hi-De-Hi. It's been over 20 years since the show ended and now there's finally a book covering everything a fan would want to know. The book is so in-depth, the amount of research involved must have been a mammoth task. It contains a wealth of information on all of the stars and guest stars. There is a detailed location section with great 'then and now' photos, plus dozens of previously unseen photos from behind the scenes and from the stars' own personal collections. The book also contains a You Rang M'Lord section which runs to over 60 pages. It's the perfect Christmas gift for a British comedy fan!
