I was looking for something which would help me with getting to know the different blocks and how to put them together. This fit my needs and with its clear written instructions and photographs it works for me.

I have never like Y seams. They always seemed so hard to make right. If you follow the instructions this author provides on pages 25 – 27, you should become an expert in this type of seam.

Who knew you could get so many shapes from a simple hexagon. I won’t name them all here but I counted nine shapes plus the original hexagon. With 10 shapes, you should be able to make all kinds of quilt patterns.

There is a five page sections on tips and tricks and explanations of tools. Next is a four page patchwork cutting guide and then after the how to make Y seams section are the blocks with over 40 pages.

Just before the actual patterns is a section on setting options. Very handy. There are only two patterns but if you use your imagination, you can create many other patterns of your own. Finally, any template you need is provided.

If you have been wondering what to do with these “odd” shapes, this book should answer that question.

Who's Your Friend? 31 May 2014
By Kathryn Delaney - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
We've always heard "a diamond is a girl's best friend." Kelly has taken that notion to the next level and proclaims it is a quilter's best friend, too!

Remember when you were younger you met someone who sort of put you off at first but who became one of your closest friends? Maybe she was going through her Goth stage but really she was just a shy person who had lots to offer. Hexagons and diamonds and triangles in quilts are just like that. They look hard to do, but with Kelly's book, you'll realize they can be coaxed ever so easily into some of the most wonderful designs.

Now, it is true that I have a vested interest in this book. I was fortunate enough to contribute a quilt. At first I just wasn't sure I could. I mean, hexagons and y-seams are HARD to do, right? So Kelly walked me through the process (just like she does in the book) and before I knew it I was making perfect joins in my blocks and not with a single pin on the sewing table!

Sometimes we want a book that teaches us something, that we can refer to over and over and not be distracted by someone else's idea of a great pattern. Kelly gives us this in HEXAGONS, DIAMONDS, TRIANGLES AND MORE. With the clear, understandable information within the pages, and the excellent illustrations, you will be able to create your own special quilts in no time. I'm tellin' ya, you're gonna love this book!

Take the Fear Out of 60 Degree Angles 10 May 2014
By mychellem - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
When it comes to quilting, 60 degree angles intimidate me. After reading this book, they still intimidate me, but I know exactly where I'm going to go when I'm ready to tackle them. There are patterns, but the book's strength is in its explanations. It shows how the different shapes and their measurements work together and how to combine them. For anyone who wants to learn to draft blocks with hexagons and diamonds, this book is a goldmine.

Disclosure -- The publisher provided me with an electronic ARC, but I'll be purchasing a copy to add to my collection of quilting books.

Great Reference Book. 6 Jun 2014
By Pam Vieira-McGinnis - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This book is not only an excellent reference book on 60 degree shapes, but a great resource for designing your own quilts using them. Kelly breaks down the shapes, how to make and use templates, a resource for templates for purchase and cutting guides for all the shapes. Not ready to design your own quilt? Don't worry, she's included a lot of great projects from small to large. Nicely done!

Martingale provided me with an electronic of this book to review if I chose to. I was under no obligation to do so.

Great Book!!! 23 May 2014
By M. Monson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I have been a big fan of 60 degree hexagons, diamonds and triangles for most of my quilting life. While I have mastered a lot of the techniques, this book has opened a new array of possibilities. Thank you Ms. Ashton for putting out this great reference for those of us who are not math savvy. The book did arrive damaged, thanks to UPS, but it is still readable and I would not let it go long enough to replace it.
