5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant value for money!, 6 Nov 2006
By K. Davies "Katherine" (Wales, UK) - See all my reviews

Excellent. I bought this scanner/printer/copier (yes, despite not saying so on many sites, it WILL copy without needing the computer) a few weeks ago and set it up within no time at all (and just so you know, I'm a 20-year-old female, not some techie whizz-kid). Since then I've been scanning and printing and copying to my heart's content (the buttons on the machine do anything you want). It hasn't once misbehaved, and for £50, why buy anything more expensive? Something that bothered me when shopping around for one of these was how easily available the necessary ink cartridges would be. I have to say I've found cartridges for this one (HP 21 and 22 - colour and black respectively) here on amazon, in stock and very competitively priced, but also in various shops like Staples, Curry's, even Tesco! To me, that makes all the difference.

Highly recommended, couldn't have asked for more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little White Wonder, 24 Feb 2007

I use this printer hooked up to my Apple iMac G5 and it is a lot better than the all-in-one I had before. Despite its cheap price, it has performed really well. Printing in black and white is nice and clear, with individual letters not showing any signs of blurring or bleeding. I have only tested the colour printing with the odd webpage, but it seems good enough. If you wanted to get serious about printing photos, I would be looking at spending more money though.

Photocopying is straightforward. Just lift the lid and place you document face down on the glass. Then fire up the HP Device Manager application and double-click 'make copies'. The HP DeskJet F380 will draw in a piece of paper and make a facsimile.

Scanning works in a similar manner and with HP Scan Pro you get the opportunity to play with the scanner's settings. I have been using the scanner's 1-bit black and white setting to make PDFs of documents. This comes into its own when you need to e-mail someone a copy of a paper document, or archive a receipt etc.

I use the HP Device Manager application to drive the F380 but there are buttons on the top, left-hand side of the printer that do the same thing if you prefer to do it that way.

If you want a good-looking, all-in-one, with a small desktop footprint, I can recommend the HP DeskJet F380 to you. If you have a iMac the colour matches too!

3.0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware, 5 May 2007
By JA Foxton (Worcester, England) - See all my reviews

If you are wondering how HP can sell a combined printer, scanner and photocopier so cheaply, the answer probably lies in the cost of replacement cartridges.

The printer itself seems fine. No complaints here. But I was alarmed to note that the black cartridge contains 5ml of ink. If you make very light use of your printer this may not be an issue but even modest users may find that they become very familiar with the process of installing new cartridges.

It is worth giving some thought to your level of ink usage before making a purchase. You may wish to read the other reviews of this product since one reviewer does very helpfully suggest that there are alternative cartridges available with a greater ink capacity.
