Product Description

Product Description

Hetty the Yeti lives with her parents and baby brother, Waah, in a shack on the very edge of Mythica, the Kingdom of Magical Creatures. One morning, Hetty wakes to find that something dreadful has happened. Baby Waah is sick, so Hetty must visit the wise but scary Oracle to ask for help. But the Oracle's words prove too complex for Yeti and her friends to understand. How can they unravel the cryptic clues in the Oracle's echoing chant, and solve the riddle that will explain the cure for Baby Waah's illness? This is an exciting, dramatic, life-and-death adventure set in a brilliantly atmospheric landscape, and also a story about the power of words and understanding.

My daughter (6yrs) bought this home as part of her school reading. What a welcome relief from the dreadful Biff and Chip characters. It has 5 or six chapters so you can space the reading. It was one of the first books that my daughter brought home that I wanted to read too and couldn't wait to find out the ending.

Hetty and her friends go in search of a cure for Baby Waah who won't get better. They visit the Oracle, meet the Harpie, the Hydra and visit the Pool of Fears. Lord of the Rings for 6 year olds! Much of the text is in speach bubbles so it encourages your child to read as they want to read the bubbles. It has quite long words so they really have to use their phonics to work out the word. It was a joy to share the reading of this book with my child. I highly recommend it.
