I have been a fan of Joaquin since his portrayal of Johnny Cash. This book does not give us many details about his life, it is more a series of quotes by actors and directors who have worked with him. It gives no real insight into Joaquin's life. It also details quite a bit about his brother River and the films he made. It is basically a chronological order of each film Joaquin has made. It mentions one personal relationship he had with the actress Liv Tyler but not in any detail and it is such a brief mention, there are no other details of any other relationships he has had.
As for the 'hoax' he played on the american public re: his retirement from acting, this is dealt with in the last chapter but very sparingly.
All in all, it is not a very good read. I would have liked to have found out more about Joaquin the person rather than Joaquin the actor.

Joaquin Phoenix is one of my favourite actors and I really enjoyed this biography of his life and all the amazing roles he's played. Of course there's loads of stuff about River in it, but he was a big part of Joaquin's life and career. Overall a really entertaining and insightful read - particularly regarding his 'hoax' retirement!

this book was sold as Used- Like New and i don't think it had been read at all as it was in perfect condition. it tells the life of Joaquin but bears heavy reference to his older brother River throughout which is a bit annoying! i know he was famous before Joaquin but it still got a bit boring with all the quotes from River and from people talking about River. it's worth a read but only if you don't mind all the River references.
