Product Description

Review

"A worthwhile challenge to the market subservience that dominates industrial design, indicating some of the ways of turning design towards more speculative, critical possibilities." Design Philosophy Papers --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Book Description

Hertzian Tales weaves a poetic and critical analysis of the electonic object drawing on influences from architecture, art, industrial design, film and music. It attempts a radical rethink of the status of product design urging a move away from the constraints of the marketplace in favour of more critically, socially and aesthetically engaged practice.

If you are looking for a summary of what interaction design is, then this is not your place. If you are craving for how it could be, for alternative possibilites, than you found an extremely valid text. Moving from theoretical assumption, the reader is logically guided to design conclusions. Which doesn't mean that the book supports analytic thiking as the only one possibile in design.
A quite old book (first edition has more than 10 years now) in a such fast field as Interaction Design, but yet a very innovative one.
