Very Comprehensive Book about the Herring Fishery,

In 200 plus fact packed pages Mike Smylie takes us on an interesting tour of all aspects of the herring and herring fishing - even including some cooking recipes. It is illustrated with some black and white sketches and a few pages of old black and white photographs. For example a Scots herring lass, the inside of a kipper house, and Yarmouth dockside with lines of its own unique baskets for carrying herring known as 'swills'. A good index makes it an easy reference book as well as an interesting read.
