One of the great strengths of Heroes, like any good television show, is the score that goes with it - giving those memorable moments of leitmotif that get you sad, happy, excited and on the edge of your seat.
I was looking forward to the release of the original soundtrack but what we have here is not the soundtrack as such but a few criminally short cuts of the fantastic music by Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman, and a load of tracks that are just like any current mix album.
The tracks actually from the show are: (1) Heroes theme (2) Fire And Regeneration - from when Claire saves the fire-fighter in the burning train (8) Natural Selection - used throughout the show (9) Abonecronedrone - used when Mohinder scatters his father's ashes and (13) Homecoming - from the episode of the same name.
The majority of the rest would probably appeal to the younger age market but out of all the other tracks the only one I liked was the last one, `Heroes' by David Bowie - and I've got that one already! I was also disappointed that the song `Eyes' by Rogue Wave which was used in the pilot wasn't on there.
The disc play list doesn't appear to have been taken from the show or taken any cues from the episodes themselves and is essentially one of those `music from and inspired by' album. On the inside cover Allan Arkush, one of the directors and producers of Heroes, says that this CD is basically the music that the creators and crew listen to when making the show. That's all well and good but you can't chuck and eclectic mix of songs together and call it the soundtrack for a series.
So, for those expecting more of the score I recommend you save your cash and avoid this one. Lets hope they release the proper `original soundtrack' soon.
