The film is so visually breathtaking that whilst watching it is difficult to fully appreciate the role of this superb soundtrack in enriching the visual experience. Listening to the CD shows that just as much care has been taken in creating the film's sonic environment as the visual one. Tan Dun's music is superb; sad, tragic, hauntingly beautiful. The marriage of the strings, kodo drums and voices is wonderful and stands up to repeated listening. If you like classical music and/or Japanese Kodo drumming, you'll love this.
