5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Artist - Excellent DVD Video 1 Dec 2011
Great music, great sound and great visually. Mostly recorded live in a pleasantly bright artists studio without any audience. Some tracks recorded outdoors, again with great sound quality. Most performances feature the Karine Polwart trio but there are also a couple of other musicians on a few tracks. A few new songs are also featured. If you like acoustic based music and quality singing then I'm sure you will enjoy!
Running time is about 90 minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent career overview 2 Feb 2012
This is not straightforward concert footage, instead it is recorded in a lovely rural studio setting, with a few new songs, and revisiting some of her best known tracks like Daisy and I'm Gonna Do It All.There is also an unexpected cover of the Blue Nile's From Rags to Riches nicely done.Between the performances there are brief documentary clips about some of the songs and her role as a singer and songwriter. She is very modest and self effacing, this DVD provides an excellent introduction and overview to a classy singer and strong songwriter. It feels like you have been invited into her living room on a bright summery day to listen to a few songs and have a cosy chat,go for a walk outside , so refreshingly different from the normal concert performance, much more intimate, insightful and rewarding. The filming is nicely done, and she is accompanied by her brother Steven, , Inge Thomson on accordion, flute, percussion and vocals, and on a few selected tracks Kim Edgar on piano, and Signy Jakobsdottir on glockenspiel, marimba & percussion. This is a stop gap before she produces her next album in autumn 2012, but stands up well as a record of what she has achieved to date, and where she is coming from in terms of her philosophy on life and music. Accessible, rewarding informative, relaxed and tasteful, well worth investing in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple but splended 14 May 2013

As a new fan of Kaine Polwarts' music it was fun to watch this DVD of Karine and her fellow musicians "doing their thing"

Loved the music and was amazed at how well they got the sound on some of the outside recordings. I guess that's down to Husband Mattie?

The studio where they film most of the songs as well as the trips out are all in the Scottish Boarders near where Karine lives. It was special to me as my Grandmother and Uncle lived in Melrose just down the road. Happy Childhood memories!

Favorite tracks for me include a wonderfully simple rendition of " The tongue that cannot lie" just Karine and a Shruti-box recorded outside and "Rivers run". Throughout the album Brother Steven's guitar playing and harmonizing vocals are just spot on, as in the wonderfully sympathetic musicianship and harmonizing of Inge Thomson

If you like Karines' music you will love the DVD

5.0 out of 5 stars SEE HER LIVE!! 28 Feb 2012

All Karine's albums are superb, but go and see her live. I saw her at Colston Hall in Bristol and am going to see her again in Exeter this April. Absolutely blown away by her live concert and well supported by the superb Inge and Steve. I'm old enough to have seen the Beach Boys, Thin Lizzy and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (with Peter Green) live and I still say that the Colston Hall concert was the best ever. Make the effort. You will not be disappointed.
