Biography

Biography by Jason Ankeny

Rising from the ashes of the legendary British post-punk unit Joy Division, the enigmatic New Order triumphed over tragedy to emerge as one of the most influential and acclaimed bands of the 1980s; embracing the electronic textures and disco rhythms of the underground club culture many years in advance of its contemporaries, the group's pioneering fusion of ... 5.0 out of 5 stars This one is timeless 26 April 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
One is reminded of the old new order, releasing singles that aren't on any album, and then having those singles trump any album they produce. Then, sometime they made a compilation of those singles called Substance, which is their Platinum best-seller. This song could be a Substance song. It fits right in with Bizarre and True Faith with nary a blink. It's tight 80's oriented rythyms and haunting vocals brings us right back to 88 with that subtle Chemicals compilation adding that updated 2002 trance sound. I don't really see much of the Chem's influence here, though. It's as if New Order asked them to sit in for Gillian, because the keyboard style is so New Order retro. The one complaint I have is that the production is a bit tinny, but Bernards vocals and lyrics sweep it away with that great "fly away" chorus.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Refreshing New Order Single 3 May 2003
Format:Audio CD
This is the kina music that New Order is all about! This is a single that is either Dance or Rock, something that I have always admired about New Order. It also goes back to the early 80's when they never put Singles on albums, although Get Ready could have done with some help!! Summers vocals are excellent and his lyrics stand up surprisingly well, and are sung from the heart.

This single is also available on the soundtrack of "24 Hour Party People", if the CD single is getting rather difficult to
find.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting electro collaboration 16 Jun 2002
By Gordon Grehan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
"Here To Stay" is taken from the "24 Hour Party People" soundtrack (which I highly recommend) and is produced by The Chemical Brothers.

The "Radio Edit" is almost four minutes of tight funky electro with an insistent throbbing beat that will instantly remind you of New Order at their 80s best. The Chemical Brothers' influence on the track seems to have been merely to add a harder bassline and some electronic doodlings to the track. "Here To Stay" is an aural rush that is the equivalent of inhaling amyl nitrate. Yes, it really is that exciting.

The "Full Length Vocal" provides another minute or so of the same.

"Player In The League" was not produced by The Chemical Brothers, but rather uber-producer Steve Osborne. The track is a sinister squall of guitars with rather subdued, yet spiteful, lyrics from Bernard Sumner. It is a disquieting track that almost borders on sounding industrial at times. It serves as a nice contrast to the sheer effervesence of "Here To Stay" and, together, the two tracks illustrate New Order's broad stylistic range.

Neither "Here To Stay" or "Player In The League" can be found on New Order's latest album, "Get Ready", and "Player In the League" is, in fact, only available on this single. So it's well worth the purchase price for New Order completists. However, as "Here To Stay" is equally as fantastic as the shimmering "Crystal" (from "Get Ready") or the pounding "Out Of Control" (The Chemical Brothers/Bernard Sumner collaboration from The Chems' "Surrender" album), I wholeheartedly urge even those with a mild interest in New Order to get hold of this single.
