5.0 out of 5 stars One of The Jazztet's finest albums from 1962. 3 Mar 2014
By Jazzrook TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
Art Farmer(1928-1999) co-led The Jazztet with Benny Golson(b.1929) from 1959-1962.
'Here and Now', originally released on MERCURY, was recorded in New York City on February 28 & March 2, 1962 with Art Farmer(trumpet, flugelhorn); Benny Golson(tenor saxophone); Grachan Moncur III(trombone); Harold Mabern(piano); Herbie Lewis(bass) & Roy McCurdy(drums).
The music achieves a balance between organisation and impovisation with some fine solos and highlights of the 10 tracks(including two 45-RPM takes) are Golson's 'Whisper Not', Ray Bryant's 'Tonk' & Thelonious Monk's 'Ruby, My Dear'.
The Jazztet never really got the recognition they deserved and 'Hear and Now' is one of their finest albums.

BTW ~ This album(less the two '45-RPM' tracks) was reissued(2012) together with 'Another Git Together' on JAZZPLUS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rarely "Here And Now" 19 Sep 2013
By Michael B. Richman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
"Meet the Jazztet" is the classic Jazztet offering, but of all the other albums collected on the Art Farmer/Benny Golson Mosaic set, "Here And Now" is the most impressive in my opinion. These 1962 sessions (February 28 & March 2) find trombonist Grachan Moncur III joining the frontline, along with a rhythm section of Harold Mabern, Herbie Lewis and Roy McCurdy. There are terrific versions of Golson's now standard "Whisper Not" and Monk's "Ruby, My Dear," plus some impressive originals by Farmer, Moncur, Mabern and pianist Ray Bryant ("Tonk"). Inexpensive copies of this out-of-print CD with mini-LP cover are still available in the Marketplace, so interested parties get a copy of this disc while it is still in the "Here & Now."
