Format:Audio CD
Both CD's are truly wonderful.

But the There concert is just fantastic. I've seen Elton Live many times and how I wish I was at this concert. Each song wonderfully arranged, the Elton John Band never let him down. Opening with Funeral for a Friend the album quickly moves up tempo, each song a classic.

But the true joy of this album is that John Lennon comes on stage for 3 songs after previously losing a bet to Elton, and still each time I hear Elton say, "it's my great pleasure and your great pleasure to Welcome on stage mr john Lennon" I feel rather emotional. Hearing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds with John Lennon on guitar and backing vocals is just fantastic. A concert of dreams.

The Here concert is truly great too, but imcomparable to the There concert.

If you're like me, you'll struggle to take this out of your CD player.

The original version of Here and There, issued in 1976, was very brief, with just a few songs from each of the two concerts featured, and I regarded it as an unimpressive album, apparently put together only to fulfil Elton's DJM Records contract . This remastered and expanded edition is a tremendous improvement, with a full 16 additional songs, and much clearer sound than the original LP. As such it gives a more realistic impression of Elton and his classic 5-piece band live at the peak of their mid-70s success, and because of the length of the performances listening to it is much more of an 'experience' than the original LP. There is a good selection of songs, including many hits but also some interesting and less well known Elton album tracks, and there are alternate versions of Your song and Take me to the pilot. You also get the 3 historically very important performances by Elton with John Lennon at Madison Square Garden. An essential album for committed Elton aficionados.

This release features the highlights of two Elton concerts from the time of his commercial peak. The London concert is a very bleak and formal affair best left for the suits! The New York concert from Mdison Square Garden is a different matter entirely. The performance in front of an adoring American audience is electrifying. The original master tapes have benn cleaned up and several additional tracks from the gig included. The highlight of this two disc set must be the appearance of the great John Lennon in what turned out to be his last concert appearance before his untimely death six years later in the Big Apple. This set cannot be recommended highly enough.
