On any new project by Damon Albarn, you need to have a pretty open mind as you never really know what each one will sound like. For starters, If your expecting Blur or Gorillaz, think again.. To try and sum it up in words, this has a kind of a ambient/electronic sound, but not in a way were its going to only appeal to fans of that genre, its a lot more clever than that.
Much of the song is instrumental, mainly a mix of piano, organs, guitar and bass, but this any my opinion is one of the best aspects of the song as very moody and atmospheric. On the vocal side of things Damon's vocals are slightly distorted for much of this then rise to a clearer more hopeful kind of chorus, although the structure of the song kind of stays on one level. Added to that it sounds like he has enlisted the help of the London community gospel choir throughout the song, although I may be wrong.
Things against this song?? Well I'd say it could do with more vocal content and maybe its not the big mainstream single that some may have wished and hoped for.
Roll on the album..
