This is a BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation starring Peter Sallis as the great Belgian detective. Tyrannical millionaire Simeon Lee has been estranged from most of his family for years. But now, on Christmas Eve, the old man calls them all together once more. Unable to disobey, the children gather uneasily and wonder what their father's intentions are. Does he want to clear up past misunderstandings or cause fresh mischief? Before they can find out, a deafening crash is heard overhead. Rushing upstairs, they discover a shocking sight: Simeon Lee is lying in a pool of blood, his throat cut. But it is the strangest thing - the door has been locked from the inside and there is no trace of the murderer. With so many possible suspects, it is lucky for Superintendent Sugden that the Chief Constable has his old friend Hercule Poirot staying with him. It seems to be an impossible case. But, as Poirot knows only too well, things aren't always as they seem.

Format:Audio CD
This full length novel has been cut down to barest bones and is ultimately a sketch of a story.I have looked and looked at the cd and see no information explaining that this story is an abridged version. And whoever chose Peter Sallis to play Hercule Poirot should be shot. His accent is extraordinarily distracting,and unconvincing- Wallace ans Grommit keep coming into the mind.

This is possibly the worse Poirot accent that I have ever heard . It ruined the whole dramatisation for me .I own all the Poirot dramatisations ever put out & have enjoyed 99% of them except this one & Maurice Denham's playing of Poirot in the earliest BBC drama - Maurice's accent was bad but this takes the cake. Bring back John Moffatt please .

Read concisely and carefully [just like Poirot's moustache]. Good characterisation and easy to listen to as the audio quality is first class. Well worth the cost. Must buy more audio books.

A fast and dramatic play which I enjoyed, however, I kept expected David Suchet's voice and this was distracting.
