‘Little masterpieces of detection. Poirot and Agatha Christie at their inimitable best.’
Sunday Express

Product Description

All 51 Hercule Poirot short stories presented in chonological order in a single volume – plus a bonus story not seen for more than 70 years.

‘My name is Hercule Poirot and I am probably the greatest detective in the world.’

The dapper, moustache-twirling little Belgian with the egg-shaped head, curious mannerisms and inordinate respect for his own ‘little grey cells’ has solved some of the most puzzling crimes of the century. Appearing in Agatha Christie’s very first novel in 1920 and her very last in 1975, Hercule Poirot became the most celebrated detective since Sherlock Holmes, appearing in 33 novels, a play, and these 51 short stories.

Arranged in their original publication order, these short stories provide a feast for hardened Agatha Christie addicts as well as those who have grown to love the detective through his many film and television appearances.

This new edition now also includes Poirot and the Regatta Mystery, an early version of an Agatha Christie story not published since 1936!

Pure Genius 26 Nov 2003
Format:Paperback
If you've ever enjoyed a Poirot mystery, then this is the book for you. It's ideal for reading in one go, or equally good for dipping into. The book contains every Poirot short story ever written, and the result is a testament to the genius of Agatha Christie.

These short stories, many of which were first published in newspapers, are a joy to read. They are perfect holiday or bed-time reading as each story can be read in about 20-30 minutes. The little Belgian detective and his friend Hastings maintain their friendly banter as they do in the longer novels in which they appear and Japp makes several good appearances. As Christie herself notes in the introduction (taken from her autobiography), the three characters were based upon Holmes, Watson and the tetchy police chief Lestrade.

Obviosuly, the stories are not as complex, multi layered or multifaceted as the longer stories are and to see Poirot thrive more satisfyingly, you need to look to these, but the short stories manage to keep you guessing and wondering right up to the denouement. Some wonderful characterisations and dialogue as one would expect from Christie punctuates the cases Poirot faces.

In short, the book is a woinderful collection but I cannot help but feel a little less satisfied having read it than when I read some of her longer books. Nevertheless, Poirot fans the world over will love the opportunity it offers to see just a little more of the famous Belgian sleuth at work.

Being newly addicted to detective stories I bought this book for good value. At the price it works out at just over 20p per story. And since each is a short story, you don't need to bookmark any of them half-way through if you'd prefer to finish it. IMO it's the best possible introduction to Agatha Christie for anyone who hasn't read her before.

Delivery was quick and arrived in perfect order. The book is excellent but because of the size the print is rather small not good if eyesight not A1.
