Product Description

Six months ago Ellie Holdsworthy’s life was all planned out - kids, wedding, happy ever after - until her boyfriend dumped her for another woman. When her best friend Penny, an heiress to a small fortune, looks set to run off with a gold-digger, Ellie has to save her from certain doom - and fast. Unfortunately, the only person who can help is the one person she’d rather not ask . . .

Little does Ellie know, persuading her brother’s best friend - commitment phobic, playboy businessman, Gideon DeLancy - to hold an intervention at his beautiful Georgian manor would be the easy part. Keeping her hands off him is a whole other matter.

Gideon doesn’t intend to fall for his friend’s snarky sister, and he sure as hell doesn’t expect their weekend to develop into a full-on sex-fest. When passion takes a strangle-hold, their differences don’t seem to matter. After all, a torrid weekend affair should be the easiest thing in the world to walk away from, so why are they finding it so difficult . . . ?

Sensuality Level: Hot

4.0 out of 5 stars A hot summer read 18 July 2013

I could not put down this book, I was so keen to see how the story developed between Ellie and Gideon. The love scenes were electric and the characters were rounded, interesting and imperfectly right. Can't wait for the next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful spicy romance! 16 Jan 2013

In this book Ellie is concerned her best friend, Penny, is about to marry a man who she thinks is only after her for her money. So she sets up a weekend in her brother's friend's house in order to expose to her what a rat he is. Unfortunately, the brother's friend, Gideon, is a man she has always loved, but never told because of his reputation as a womanizer.

As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Gideon has real problems from a difficult childhood and that Ellie's interest in helping her friend might not be as altruistic as originally believed. This forms the backdrop to a passionate and powerful love story between Ellie and Gideon.

This book keep me up last night because I wanted to find out the ending. The characters appealed to me, they both came across as very real with issues and problems and I especially liked the fact that Ellie, despite her issues in the book, wasn't a Cinderella waiting to be rescued. She was sarky and often said the wrong thing, regretting it afterwards.

The love scenes in this book are very well written and emotional. Overall, I really enjoyed this story, I liked the author's voice, which was strong, and the plot line that didn't go in the way you thought it would. Certainly I didn't see Penny's secret coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shmokin' Hot! 8 Jan 2013

From the moment we meet Ellie and Gideon, the chemistry leaps off the pages. This is one fun read, as they pair up in order to save a friend from making what they see as a mistake. It's so lovely reading a book where the hero and heroine need to work together in order to solve a problem -- and heck, spend their time in a gorgeous country pile to boot. I couldn't put it down as I didn't want to leave these two without knowing they were HEA. A fab, rollickingly good read! I hope this debut author brings out more like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reviewed by Desere Steenberg 7 Jan 2013

Ellie is in a slump, has been for the last six months. Her fiancée left her for another hotter woman. And all this after she had their future all planned out. The only thing that she can focus her attention on for now is helping her best friend from making a mistake.

And for help she goes to her brothers best friend Gideon DeLancy, Mr. I am hotter than the sun and I burn up the sheets with any willing woman, and then discard them for another.

Gideon knows he will live to regret it but to keep Ellie from trouble and as a silent favour to her family that took him under their wings. He goes with the flow and they head out to his estate or rather should I say castle as it is really no ordinary home.

Only once he and Ellie are in confined places and situations together neither one can seem to keep their hands of each other. Gideon makes her feel like a real woman again, after her ex degraded her on every level he could think of. They both decide after their return home sex is off the table.

But once they leave and get back to the city, it proves easier said then done. And yes you guessed it a series of events follow that for me as reader had me rooting for these two all the way.

The author did a brilliant job at taking two lost characters both needing to find peace and come to terms with the stones life has thrown at them, and brought them together with a bang!

What was interesting was that the author not only pulled the characters past into the mix to show me as reader the reasoning as to just exactly why both have issues that they very clearly need to sort out in order to really move on, but she incorporated the little things such as Ellie crying when she sees a child or the reasoning behind her baggy clothes. Not many authors focus on these and sometimes for me as reader I need to try to pick up on those by using imagination, as you only get the reason why the character is so touchy or guarded. But not really all the situations or comments that set their emotions off.

But this author gave it all, and more by carefully taking me as reader on a journey of self discovery, letting go of the past and finding what you have been looking for is right in front of you.

The book can also be a real eye opener to readers that have suffered verbal and emotional abuse. The book had passion and a level of emotion that brought me to tears.

The dialogue was at times a little bit funny but most of the time really serious. The author also really gave the book that "love set in the country side" feeling with stunning descriptions, she certainly has a very vivid imagination which to me as reader is always very important.

The sex scenes where hot yet a little different, as if you are into the normal ordinary sex scenes from laid back contemporary romances, some instances such as a very sexy mirror scene you might be somewhat shocked. For myself as reader I am never too overly troubled by those or shocked for that matter and I found the sex very tasteful.

If your in the mood for a spicy yet different kind of romance read focusing on learning how to love yourself and the one your with and shake of the past, then this is the read for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars How do you mend a broken heart? Here's an option. 7 Jan 2013

Being a bit of an anglophile, I was already in the right frame of mind to like, Her New Worst Enemy. I wanted Gideon and Ellie to get together right from the get-go. He's so slick and polished and she's well . . . not. But that's part of their charm.

I enjoyed how these two, who practically grew up together, still managed to misunderstand and misinterpret each other. Sometimes you can't move away from your past fast enough. You're doomed to drag it around behind you like a streamer of toilet paper stuck to the bottom of your shoe. Not so good.

But the potential for fresh growth was there once they decided to revisit and revise their relationship as adults and leave the hurt behind. And that, my friends, was one steamy ride.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author for an impartial review.

This book was fun. I loved Ellie's sense of humor and her loyalty to a fault. When she believes in something, she goes after it with all of her heart and soul. She's loved her brother's best friend since she was a little girl and she goes to him for help in stopping her friend from making what she sees as a huge mistake marrying a man she barely knows. She's hidden her feelings for Gideon behind snarky remarks and aloof behavior. To read my full review go here: [...]
5.0 out of 5 stars Sizzling hot, fun read 17 Feb 2013

Ellie's recently been dumped by the man she thought she'd be spending the rest of her life with and has hiden herself away from family and friends. When she learns her friend Penny is about to marry someone Ellie doesn't trust, she enlists the help of Gideon, her brother's best friend. Problem is, Ellie's always felt a little weak-kneed around the man and he's got a different woman on his arm every week. When Penny and Will show up late for the weekend at Gideon's house, the attraction between Ellie and Gideon sizzles and boils over.

Well developed characters that have lots of believable and easy-to-relate to thoughts racing around in their heads and super hot sex scenes that came across as fresh every time. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful contemporary romance 29 Jan 2013

Format:Kindle Edition
Ellie Holdsworthy needs help with her best friend Penny, she thinks Penny is getting married to the wrong person and wants to talk to her about her fiancé. However Penny is angry at her and won't talk. So Ellie is going to ask their mutual friend Gideon, as Ellie thinks Penny will listen to Gideon.

Ellie's brother Gareth's best friend is Gideon DeLaney, who has known her family for years. After his parents died he went to live with his grandparents and they immediately sent him to boarding school. At school he met Gareth and they became fast friends. Gareth and Ellie's parents welcomed him into their family as if he had been part of it for years. And although he does have a sister named Harriet, she disappeared as soon as she could and never contacted anyone, his grandparents acted like she never existed. Gideon has never looked for her because of pride and figured if she wanted to be found she would have come forward.

Ellie recently got out of a long term relationship, one she thought would last forever, she thought by now she would be married and ready for kids. So when Paul dumped her for another woman who was pregnant, she was devastated and did not tell anyone but Penny, she just could not face her family. Paul also did a number on her self esteem and she rarely wears clothes that show off her shape as Paul would laugh when she tried to look glamorous.

Deciding that Gideon's family home would be perfect, they got set for the weekend. His house is a beautiful home that he renovated after his grandparents died; he wants to make good memories there now. So Ellie and Gideon drive up early as Penny, Will and Gareth will come up later. This leaves Ellie and Gideon to have the house to themselves for awhile as they get reacquainted; they have rarely spent any time alone. They go to the market for supplies and while there they get into a wreck, not a bad one but they are startled and realized that someone could have been hurt, but it is like a dam releases and Ellie starts to cry, probably releasing all her pain from built up emotions. All the sudden they are looking at each other differently; they suddenly can't get enough of each other as they enjoy the afternoon.

Finally Penny and Will arrive, however things are strained. Will does not talk much and Penny seems sad. They end their evening early and the next morning Will gets up and leaves saying he is calling off the wedding. The weekend is over and Ellie has gotten what she wished for, but she does not feel right and thinks she may have been wrong about the two. They all go home and she and Gideon part ways as they both had said that the deal was only for the weekend with no strings attached. She misses him. When Gideon tries to help Will and Penny get back together, Ellie realizes she does not want to be without Gideon. However they must work through several issues before they can commit.

I really enjoyed this book. I love both the friends to lovers and best friend's sister trope which this book has. And although there is a mutual attraction, he is so scared about relationships because of his family. His grandparents really messed up his world and the fact that his sister left and never tried to contact him hurt him deeply. I enjoyed the relationship between Ellie and Gideon, the chemistry worked and you could tell they were passionate when together. They really could not get enough of each other. Penny and Will's relationship was a little rushed - both in the breaking up and then getting back together, however they are secondary characters so it worked. I would definitely recommend this for a romantic read that had some angst and steam.
