4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent enjoyable fantasy, 2 Jun 2001

This review is from: Her Majesty's Wizard (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book in an extremely enjoyable series. The hero is a perpetual student who is transported to a medeval parallel universe where poetry can actually work magic. The story draws on many mythical, literary and historical references. Despite the entirely fairy tale setting, the characters remain enjoyable and believable in themselves. They display many human characteristics which prevents the story from becoming too silly. As the story moves with pace. It contains many twists and turns which keep you interested in what "our hero" will do next. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars an old recipe with new meat, or old meat with a new recipe?, 6 July 2000
A rather disappointing novel. If you have read the Warlock series you'll have an impression of déja vu, of rehash. To be read on a rainy afternoon when there's really nothing else to do. Stasheff seems to have lost his lightness of touch and his humour.

5.0 out of 5 stars "THE BEST FANTASY BOOK EVER", 25 April 1999
By A Customer
Her Majesties wizard is the best fantasy book Ive ever read, packed full of suspense, magic and passion its impossible to put down. The story starts when Matt Mantrell finds an old piece of parchment while doing research at his local library, upon reading the scroll he is whisked into a parrallel universe where poetry works magic, yet all is not well,an evil king and his sorcerer have taken the throne and locked the beautiful princess in the dungeon, and the only person that can stop them is Matt later lord Wizard of Merovene. Christopher Stasheff is a genius his books appeal to the young and old alike.A must for any fantasy fan.
