Jake & Megan had a whirlwind romance 6 years previously and had married without really knowing each other and the marriage was shortlived. We do get to go back in the past occasionally but it doesn't really tell us much. I still don't know why they really parted.
Six years later and Jake is now a millionaire. Megan has struggled since leaving Jake and now runs a catering business. She is aboard the boat Jake owns (not that she realises he is the owner) trying to win the catering contract. When she sees Jake again he is playing the Piano and she actually believes that's his job and he is the ship entertainment!!! Found that a bizarre part of the story.
So in traditional M&B style, when Megan left Jake she found out she was pregnant but after trying to track him down and failing, she decided to never tell him about Megan.
When they meet on the boat they are both still attracted to one another and begin a sexual relationship. Yet Jake doesn't tell her he is now a millionaire and she doesn't tell him he's a father. When Megan finds out about Jake from another source she ups and leaves. When he tracks her down and discovers he has a daughter he has to convince Megan to give them a chance.
This was an OK book for a freebie but I just didn't feel any chemistry between Jake and Megan so when they declare their love, I wasn't convinced. It takes a good part of the book for Jake to find out he has a child and then the end part seems quite rushed.
Worth a read though if you like Mills & Boon books.
This is my first novel by Barbara Bretton but wouldn't hesitate to read further books by her. I liked the characters and the love and desire they still felt for one another was so tangible I could feel it. Thus, I finished this book easily within a couple of days.
Every book by Barbara Bretton is the same, you don't just read the story, you see it. A real easy reading, feel good book, perfect for any time you want to shut the world out.
