Format:Mass Market Paperback
The premise of this book is that it is written as a school project. The trouble is, the content is so poor for a published art book, that I am unable to decide whether it really is a school project or whether this is a literary device to appeal to child readers. It doesn't work. I really wanted a book about Matisse's later cut out collages to inspire my own children, and this isn't it. The cut out drawings are only briefly covered and all the way through Matisse's life is compared to that of the narrator, about whom I have absolutely no interest. If this is a school project, I say well done to the child, this is an excellent school project, but I was expecting to buy a book by an art historian so I hope you can understand why I was disappointed.

This is a wonderful book for Primary age children. I used it as a starting point to demonstrate to children how they could takle their own projects on artists of their choice. They loved it.

I strongly recommend this book even for adults.Well-aimed. I wish to be more books like this, to cover the life and ifluences of all painters. A very good introduction for children!!

Very babyish. Hardly any reproductions of Mattisse and hardly any collage ideas. The title was misleading; I expected ideas of how to draw with scissors; there were none. Read more
