Product Description

Henna has been used for centuries by cultures around the world for mystical, medicinal, and decorative purposes-and its allure continues to enchant millions of people today. "Henna Magic" is the first book to explore the magical uses of this natural, non-permanent form of body art. Learn about henna's fascinating history and its traditional uses in various cultures, and discover how to create original henna tattoos that resonate with your spiritual intention. Through easy-to-follow steps, you will learn to mix henna paste, incorporate magical herbs and oils, prepare the skin for application, and create designs to turn every occasion, ritual, and spell into a beautiful expression of power. Also included are design ideas for specific areas of the body, concise explanations of the significance and meanings of symbols, and a thorough exploration of magical, planetary, herbal, and elemental correspondences to enhance your spiritual practice and spellcraft.

Magic Art 14 Dec 2010
Format:Paperback
I bought this book for my wife but ended up reading it myself. The only trouble was I had to hide the fact from `She who must be obeyed`. So, extended trips to the loo with the book hidden in a folded copy of the FT and long baths ensued. My wife thought I should see a doctor about the bouts of IBS I was seemingly suffering from and a psychiatrist to deal with my compulsive obsessive disorder of cleanliness. I love magic in all its forms and cultural, ritual magic is of great interest to me. This book can only be described as `An Object of Beauty` you cannot separate the power and importance sacred body art has played in magic ritual throughout the ages. Whether the art be fetishistic or status-driven, there is a real belief in adorning the body in visual charms. Henna Magic is a fascinating read. Philippa Faulks has a great insight into her subject matter and written this book in such a way as to make it readable to a novice or practiced body art enthusiast. Great book. Buy it for a Xmas gift.

Where are the designs? 18 Nov 2010
By CatKrazy - Published on Amazon.com

It's been months I am waiting for this book to come out. I was so happy when it finally did! But then, it was not at all what I expected. How can a book talk so much about henna designs and have so very little on designs themselves??? It is a great book for those that want to learn about henna history and everything about it, but not a good book if you look for designs and inspiration. For pictures, there are only a few not so bright, not as big as they should be to show some henna designs. I am quite disappointed...

I was hoping for actual design patterns, not just a generic listing of symbols from different belief sets. The section on mixing and setting the henna was nice, though. Just wish there were actual Indian designs included... Guess I'll just have to keep looking.
