First off - I didn't buy these from amazon so this is not a reflection of the vendor, only the product.

I thought these would be good as the different colours would be suitable for different fabric shades. However, the lead doesn't actually leave a mark consistently, even using a good quality pencil sharpener the lead breaks and the already short pencils (about 3 inches maximum I think when new) disappear quickly to unusable stubbiness when you have sharpened them more than three times - which you will need to do, frequently, because they cannot retain a sharp point and you cannot therefore maintain a consistent line. The lids are pointless and fall off the pencil, just cluttering up your storage, and the brush thing doesn't do anything useful. The pencil marks don't brush off with the lid, though they can come off when washing.

I found these quite frustrating, and it might be worth considering other marking tools. I generally still use a (non-splattery) biro, which I was hoping to move away from, or for important things, a fabric pen that came with my sewing machine. However, I'm not sure either of these wash out well, so am still at square one.

Great idea, poor quality product; there are better ways to mark your fabric.

1. Amazon needs to reclassify this product as NOT A TOY, rather a CRAFT PRODUCT.

2. Next Amazon needs to stop selling this rubbish product at all as it is absolutely useless .... leaves barely any marks on fabric, extremely brittle and has a silly plastic brush cap that is supposed to remove any marks/residue from fabrics but does nothing.

Dont waste your money here ...go for the traditional triangular tailors' chalk.

Adverised as Dressmaker fabric marking pencils, these won't work on any fabric and fall apart when sharpened. Absolutely not fit for purpose And not up to Amazon standards.

Would give no stars if that option available

Although these pencils are advertised at 'marking pencils' I have to agree with most other reviewers that they actually don't mark any fabric at all!

Best to use proper dressmakers chalk or a clean biro pen.

As soon as you put the lead of the pencil onto the fabric to write, the pressure forces the lead out of the other end. - Useless, even with the brush cap on to help stop it, it doesn't work.

Falls far short of reasonable expectations, particularly considering that this is a widely stocked product and of a well known make. Lids fall off in storage; pencils fail to mark fabric adequately in use. Would not buy again or recommend to others. A waste of money. This criticism is of the hemline product and is not directed at Amazon or any specific seller.

I have no idea why these markers are considered to be toys. I bought them to use on tweed but, unfortunately, they have not worked. The 'lead' is not soft enough to mark the fabric so I've reverted to ordinary dressmakers' chalk. I've not tried them on other fabrics but assume they work on, for example, denim.

Such a shame as I had great expectations of this chalk as a beginner sewer it seemed ideal. Sadly, it would not mark any of the fabrics I tried to use it on (either cottons or synthetics), in spite of trying sandpapering it, damping it or just USING it!

Totally useless and I ended up using a ball point pen instead.

PLEASE don't make the same mistake and buy this totally rubbish product.

It's undoubtedly classed as "a toy" because it's totally UNFIT FOR PURPOSE!
