Product Description

Product Description

With child abuse and the need to manage children's behaviour very much in the public eye, parents, teachers and child care workers are conscious that they need to think carefully about how to deal with children who are aggressive. If they do not understand what is happening, they may react inappropriately and abuse children yet children can present a very real physical threat that requires adequate preparation and careful handling. Adults need to have a strong sense of their objectives and a grasp of basic techniques to meet any situation. This concise and practical book, written by an experienced practitioner, draws on recent research, as well as the author's own extensive experience. Alan Train explains the various theories on agreesion in children, the causes and manifestations of aggressive behaviour in different situations at home or in school. The adult needs to understand the child's point of view to take positive and constructive action, only then can they help the child towards a more positive interaction with the world around them and a strengthening of their self-esteem. The practical programmes presented here makes this book a valuable source for all parents and professionals.

I liked the title 7 Jan 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
It seemed a shame that the book hadn't been reviewed so I am putting in my two cents to start the pot.

I haven't read the entire book yet and doubt that I will but from what i can tell, in the first half of the book Train tells parents they are not to blame for their child's behavior. Now, I am from the school of thought that believes that parents are always to blame for rotten kids so I didnt like that too much. I guess he has to write that because people don't like to be told when they are lousy parents.

In the second half, he seemed to say that even if parents aren't to blame, here is what good parents do create good kids and you can do the same . This part I liked because i have a young child and could use a lesson or two. It also fit into my world view which makes it easier to read.
