Review

"...a bible for natural healing. Whether you've got a painful mouth ulcer, have trouble sleeping, or simply overdid it last night, it suggests the best remedies, how to take them and warns of any side effects."
-- Country Living Magazine, Summer 2008

Product Description

Herbs have myriad uses, and not just for cooking. Herbs are also incredibly useful for healing the minor medical miseries of life (and some of the major ones too) and in many cases, they are more effective than the pharmaceutical alternative. Nothing zaps a sore throat faster than Propolis, sorts out a painful gum infection more efficiently than a shot of Marigold or takes the sting out of sunburn better than Aloe Vera. For as long as people have been able to pick berries and forage for food, herbs have been used for medicinal purposes. There is even evidence to suggest that Neanderthal Man knew about and used herbs. Country people the world over have always relied on them, especially when no other doctoring was available. And you don't need to be a trained herbalist to be able to use them. It’s simple. All that is needed is information, inspiration and a little savvy and that’s where Helpful herbs for health and beauty comes in! Discover the many medical uses of nature's bounty, and also find out the canny natural beauty tricks that really work. Simply brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands on herbs 16 May 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I liken this book as a modern version of the old fashioned 'Doctors' Book which every family had in the house back in the 40s and 50s! If there are any health problems, the book will tell you which herb will solve the problem, hopefully. It's the kind of book you can pick up and look for a solution for just about anything and is an easy read when you have a spare couple of minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Useful 12 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Very well organized with 52 hyper-linked chapters so you can find the right herbs for different needs. Each chapter is full of useful information about various herbs, results of research, and tips. I was just going to write that it would be better to know how to find and purchase the herbs when I found a very useful resources section at the end. I will certainly dip into this book when I have a specific ailment. I was very lucky to be able to download this book for free and for that price it's certainly worth 5 stars! If I had to pay more I'd award 4 stars as I'd probably want more features such as pictures, side boxes with recipes, and a hyper-linked index of specific herbs so that I can go from the herb to the ailment rather than ailment to herb if I want to.

5.0 out of 5 stars informative book on herbs and your health 8 Dec 2011
By alaska - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is one I added to my kindle permanent folder. It has the most common ailments (depression, body aches, headaches, colds, insomnia, tummy troubles, skin issues, fertility and more) and several ideas on each so you can try different herbs to find out what works for you. I had expected a short list for each item but it is fully expanded upon for each. DIY recipes as well. Pleasantly surprised :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Good reference 9 Feb 2012

An excellently presented selection of useful herbs and sometimes vegetables and how to use them to help yourself. The information is immediately available and simply presented. I highly recommend it.
3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 STARS- a quality compilation of home remedies, but nothing new 6 April 2014
By BestJes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are definitely some oldie but goodie recipes for recipes for holistic cures in this book but I think calling it "brilliant" may be a bit of a stretch.
If you are new to home remedies or holistic medicine, this is an okay place to start. But as there are no illustrations and the tone is fairly boring, it is not a book that you will want to pic up and read cover to cover. If you can add this to your Kindle reference stash for 99 cents, consider it. Otherwise, just Google your question or go to the local library where there are many more holistic books to choose from.
