Product Description

Review

"...a bible for natural healing. Whether you've got a painful mouth ulcer, have trouble sleeping, or simply overdid it last night, it suggests the best remedies, how to take them and warns of any side effects."
--Country Living Magazine, Summer 2008

Book Description

"Herbs are so effective for the minor miseries of life (and some of the major ones too) that in many cases, I haven't stocked the pharmaceutical alternative in my medicine cupboard for years. Nothing zaps a sore throat faster than Propolis, sorts out a painful gum infection more efficiently than a shot of Marigold or takes the sting out of sunburn better than Aloe Vera. For as long as people have been able to pick berries and forage for sticks, herbs have been used for medicinal purposes. There is even evidence to suggest that Neanderthal Man knew about and used herbs. Country people the world over have always relied on them, especially when no other doctoring was available. And you don't need to be a trained herbalist to be able to use them. It’s simple. You just need information, inspiration and a little savvy and that’s where Hands-on herbs comes in!" Barbara Griggs What it’s about
Barbara Griggs has been researching and writing about herbal medicine for over 20 years. In Hands-on herbs she reveals 52 inspirational ideas on how to discover the best uses for herbs throughout your daily life. Discover:
• The best herbs to use for spots, pimples, bites and stings
• How to get rid of headaches and migraines
• The best remedies for coughs, colds and the flu
• How to recharge your batteries
• The best herbal detox methods
• What to use for ‘that time of the month’
• Herbs suitable for babies' needs

With the 52 Brilliant Ideas series readers can enhance their existing skills with negligible investment of time or money and will substantially improve their performance over the course of a year. Each of the 52 chapters tackles a single aspect of the subject in an entertaining and lively way. At the end of each chapter is a "how did it go?" feature which allows readers to reflect on the lesson in a classical experiential learning pattern. The tone of each book is personal and informal; readers will feel as thought they are having a one-to-one with their favourite coach.

Hands on herbs 16 May 2009
Format:Paperback
I liken this book as a modern version of the old fashioned 'Doctors' Book which every family had in the house back in the 40s and 50s! If there are any health problems, the book will tell you which herb will solve the problem, hopefully. It's the kind of book you can pick up and look for a solution for just about anything and is an easy read when you have a spare couple of minutes.

Very Useful 12 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Very well organized with 52 hyper-linked chapters so you can find the right herbs for different needs. Each chapter is full of useful information about various herbs, results of research, and tips. I was just going to write that it would be better to know how to find and purchase the herbs when I found a very useful resources section at the end. I will certainly dip into this book when I have a specific ailment. I was very lucky to be able to download this book for free and for that price it's certainly worth 5 stars! If I had to pay more I'd award 4 stars as I'd probably want more features such as pictures, side boxes with recipes, and a hyper-linked index of specific herbs so that I can go from the herb to the ailment rather than ailment to herb if I want to.
