Julian, has done a great job on this album, and my personal opinion, is that it is a better album then that of Photograph Smile. Help Youself has the experimental touch, which i love on a CD. Rebel King-The opening track, and does it open the album, you have this Huge 747 fly over your head (well thats what it sounds like) and slides the listener into the song. This song features some rather bizarre lyrics, and a highlight would be in the first chrous, with the sound of a gunshot. Love it.

Saltwater, is a classic 90's song, nearly everyone knows all the lryics to it, and always sing it, when they hear it. Get a Life, is a fast upbeat song, about basically getting a life. Then the album, slows down to the sounds of waves crashing against a wharf, with a distant sound of a train's horn. Eerrie, but beautiful, Would You is one of the greatest songs on the album and the longest song on the album. Maybe i was wrong, is the next track, and although not a standout song, still it has it's moments. Start of Track Seven, the title tracj Help Youself, reminds me of a Beatles number, with sounds reversed in both channels, and then speeds up for another rather upbeat song. Track 8 is written soley by Julian, and is all about him not listening to anyone who thinks they know him, but they don't. Now the album, goes to the next level, with Other side of town. This song is beautiful, with the gradual build up. A medium paced song, which fades out into a short space, before we hear the crazy sound of a guitar, and then BANG "ROLL ON, ROLL ON" in left then right speakers. then the synth bass happens, the song- New Physics Rant, is a mad song. If anyone knows what it is about they are doing pretty well. The chrous is sung by a children's chior which seperates alot from Julians frustration in his verses. Track ten, Take me Home, is an accoustic number, which is just brilliant. Imaginary Lines, track eleven, seems to be about politics and great at it to. The final track, is Keep the People Working, and it's almost a working anthem. One huge advantage with the CD itself is that is engineered in Q Sound, which sounds fantastic if you own a Pro-Logic sound system. Overall a great album from Mr J. Lennon.

Good but not Great 3 Jan 2001

This album has some great tracks in particular; Rebel King, Maybe I was Wrong, Other side of town and of course the 90's classic Saltwater. I see this album as being an experimental album for Julian, as the songs don't seem to conform to any particular style he has adopted in the past. Take the 'Other side of town' for example, this can be seen as a hybrid between Pink Floyd, with its atmospheric guitar solos and backing vocals (ala Dark Side of the Moon) and a Paul Simon song. I my opinion this album is a good purchase. Also listen out for the Cold Turkey Style (Track 2 on the Lennon Legends album) guitar riff in 'Get a Life'.
