Product Description

Product Description
"Help! I'm Turning Into My Dad!" is just what men need to face the world as middle-age looms over the horizon. Those DIY jobs really can wait until the weather gets better; the garden is a fine place to spend a summer Sunday afternoon; footballers are paid too much and there's no point watching that rubbish until they start winning again; does it sound familiar? Let's face it: you are turning into your Dad! You can fight it only in the same way that King Canute confronted the tide or Don Quixote tilted at windmills, bravely but in futility. This book assists you to make the transition from wide-eyed dreamer to wise old counsel. Illustrated with 50 wryly-observed cartoons and broken down into ten chapters, the carpet slippers brigade will find that "Help I'm Turning Into My Dad!" is required reading. After all, who told you about the book in the first place? Your old dad, of course!

About the Author
Chas Newkey-Burden is approaching that age where policemen always look so young, a night in front of the television has more appeal than getting all hot and sweaty in a noisy nightclub and things were better when he was growing up. Yes, Chas is the perfect author for this title. He has written on a number of different subjects, including Great Email Disasters and The Reduced History of Britain. He also wrote chapters for both the bestselling Crap Towns titles and Loaded's Greatest Living Englishman, and he writes for The Times, The Mail on Sunday, Men's Health, Loaded, Private Eye and The Big Issue. Forthcoming books include Not In My Name: A Compendium Of Modern Hypocrisy, co-written with Julie Burchill. Mike Mosedale is a cartoonist and illustrator.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laughter is the only medicine, 13 Nov 2008

This is one of those books that puts into words the experiences I've been having the past few years without even noticing.

I think at some point we all turn into our dads and what Chas has done here is not only make us laugh about that fact but he's had me rolling on the floor in hysterics.

It's not often that someone "gets" something so ingrained in our DNA and brings it to our attention in this way. You can only admire his sheer transparent observations and keep laughing, over and over again.

Buy this book, it will make you laugh!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and funny, 11 Nov 2008

As a rival humour book author (I wrote Sod That!: 103 Things Not To Do Before You Die: 103 Things Not to Do Before You Die, which, I'm annoyed to note has a lower amazon ranking, at the time of writing) I should really be slagging this book off, but it's very funny, so I can't. It's also most touching in its affection for all things Dad. Well done Chas, you unspeakable ****.

1.0 out of 5 stars The writer who reviews his own books, 8 Nov 2008
The author of this book Chas Newkey-Burden, using a dummy ID, likes to review his own books here on Amazon - invariably giving them all 5 stars and a hearty recommendation of course! The 'review' you are reading now will soon disappear on the grounds that it is defamatory to the author; but how can the truth be defamatory?

According to Private Eye (among other sources) several reviews of books written by the author Chas Newkey-Burden, were posted by the same person (Chas Newkey-Burden) using a number of dummy Amazon IDs. I saw the evidence with my own eyes, as did thousands of others. He has been proven to adopt similar tactics for 'reviewing' his own books here. Funny, embarrassing and sad.

The proof was evident for all to see when on the profile of an Amazon user called 'reader' (until recently 'read all about it') the REAL name of that user was shown to be Chas Newkey-Burden. He quickly removed that information from the profile page as soon as word escaped! This isn't just a wild allegation from a mad anti-fan, it's a fact and a matter of public record.

No doubt this allegation will be deleted, as Chas Newkey-Burden is desperate to minimise his public humiliation. He will ask Amazon to delete it - but it will be posted again!

Ugh. It must have sounded like a great idea for a book, and who can blame his publishing company for agreeing to it? Read more
