Product Description

A high quality paperback of 145 pages written in an accessible and friendly style empathising with the reader. Outlines both the practical issues at the time of a bereavement, such as registering a death, the funeral, and executing a will, and the emotional journey as we mourn and grieve. The aim is to provide clear, straightforward advice and help. The authors are a father and son, a local GP and a minister. All have lost very close relatives and write from personal and professional experience.

"I commend this book for the clear way it covers the practical and emotional aspects of bereavement." from the Foreword by Debbie Thrower.

A help indeed 25 Oct 2010
By Warwick
A well titled book, it is indeed a help in making sense of all the different aspects of bereavement. It has been sensitively written and does not try to 'answer' everything; there is recognition that each person's experience of bereavement is unique. The different author's contributions build a rich mixture of personal experience and professional help.
You can read from cover to cover, or just pick and choose sections or chapters as the need arises. The book covers one's own emotional response and subsequent journey as well as highlighting the wider social impact of someone's death. There is also extensive help in the practical and legal areas which will ease the necessary form filling duties.
I highly recommend this book; useful to have to hand and also spares for friends/relatives.

A great resource... 4 Feb 2011
By Witham
'A Help In Grief' is an immensely helpful book. It is nicely paced, and is written on the understanding that those who are bereaved may well want to dip in and out of it, depending on where they are on their journey of grief. Each of the authors brings to the writing their own experience of loss, but they manage to do so without making any assumptions of the reader and their experience.

The text is divided nicely between the personal and practical aspects of coping after loss, and has proved to be a great resource. As someone who is fairly newly ordained, finding material that is sensitively written which encompasses the emotional aspects of grieving, as well as providing pragmatic information is a real gift.

We've just begun to use it as part of our bereavement support, offering a copy to all those who are recently bereaved. So far, it has been very well-received and has been helpful not just to those we are caring for, but also for those who offer support. Definitely worth having some on the bookshelf!
