5.0 out of 5 stars A wonder in red and black ink 25 Jan 2004
Format:DVD
Hellsing is one anime that everyone should see, because it stands out from most of the other series that are currently avaliable. The characters all have very strong personalities, the anti-hero Alucard is possibly the coolest character ever created and even the American voice acting is not too bad! The story is about a young policewoman called Seras Victoria who is transformed into a vampire by the mysterious Alucard. She then has to join the Hellsing organisation to help them wipe out the zombie-like FREAK vampires. Hellsing is also one of the most violent animes that I have seen. There is strong violence, gore, swearing and sexual references throughout and so it is not one for the weak of heart. But, as I have said, it is a must see series. Although the series gets progressively worse from episode eight onwards, the first two DVDs are must buys. If nothing I have said appeals to you, buy it just to see Alexander Anderson, the insane Catholic priest ^_^

5.0 out of 5 stars For vampires with style, watch Hellsing. 14 July 2003
Format:DVD
Hellsing is an anime that seems to often get overlooked. Set in a gothic looking London and with dark animation in muted colours it seems a far cry from children's anime such as Dragon Ball Z. It should be duly noted that this is NOT a kid's cartoon.
Hellsing is an organisation that kills vampires and ghouls, ghouls being zombie like creatures that people who are killed by vampires without being made into vamps themselves become. The organisation has at it's command a powerful vampire named Alucard who has a huge silver pistol, a sharp fashion sense and a creepy smile. There is also the hesitant, but courageous young police woman, Celes, who provides light relief mostly though looking comically perplexed at everything that happens around her and by running around in a ludicrous uniform that apparently only she has to wear!
I'd recomend Hellsing to anybody who's pining over the end of the series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, anybody who likes Japanese anime, or just anybody looking for something different to run of the mill TV. Great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the dude below gives credit for 4 Oct 2006
Format:DVD
I have watched the english dubbing version and i have the japanese subtitled version on my hard drive, both are superb. At times, sure the animation is a little ropey, mainly on close ups of expressions but you generally get this most japanese anime, that gives it a little bit of anime character. Thats what seperates it from the likes of toy story and the like.

As with much of the anime genre, there is a deeper meaning to all of this, it is not just gore, vampires and killing them all. With the rigt mind set, it is spiritual, the characters teach you, each character being strong in the personality that they have.

The story is basically about a vampire hunting agency refered to as the "hellsing organisation", this organisation have a secret weapon who goes by the name of Alucard (read it backwards and mixed with the first episode all will become clear). The leading ruthless arrogant male character is somewhat unbeatable, no weaknesses only strengths and lots of them. The story however is not about him so much as his apprentice "Police girl" or Seras Victoria. He trains her into the female version of what he is with tough love but hidden respect. Yet Alucard is still a star, you still enjoy watching his destructive arrogance and seeing him reveal yet more power to us and revel in his task of ridding the world of vampires often killing them slowly and taking the time to let them think that they have killed him and then annihialating them with his 2 foot gun or his alchemic hands, just to demonstrate his power.

All in all, well worth a watch though it may not be every bodies cup of tea, i advise you watch it under the influence of an intoxicating substance...everything becomes more interesting when that happens. Especially spiritual anime.

Enjoy

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Finale But missing something... 11 Jun 2004
Format:DVD
An excellent ending to the Hellsing series, what with the brilliant graphics well drawn and such, as this is the first anime that I have watched that is set in England. Alucards Control Art Restriction Level 1 Pentagram is certainly impressive. However, I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the characters backgrounds, especially those of Seras Victoria(one of the protagonists),Sir Integra, and the Knights of the Round Table in particular as this may have made the ending more plausible, as the viewers would then be able to debate amongst themselves as to who was the traitor that the show refuses to tell you. It would also have been better if they allowed Seras to explore her powers more fully.

All in all a great show, but it could have been so much more...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Anime Ever 10 Jan 2004
Format:DVD
This has to be by far the absolute best anime i have ever seen! The first episode leaves you craving for more, and the next two do the same. This is an addictive anime about an organisation called Hellsing. Ran by Sir Integra Wingates Hellsing, they dispatch of Vampires and Ghouls (humans that have had all the blood sucked from them, more or less turning them into zombies) Their secret weapon, a very powerful Vampire named Arucard, is sent to kill their more powerful enemies. The show follows Seras Victoria, the newest recruit to the Hellsing organisation. This DVD is a great value for money and a fantastic start to a brilliantly thought out anime.
