Dreadful,
By
This review is from: The Hellraiser Chronicles (Paperback)
This book offers little to no "inside info" about the Hellraiser films, nor does it offer any kind of analysis of the series or its characters/themes, but that shouldn't come as a surprise when you consider the fact that it's only 96 pages in length.
The book face itself is a little larger than A4, and the text content within its pages is clumsily scrawled around massive images (high quality pics; nothing you haven't seen before, however). The vast majority of the textual content is simply character quotation from the films, otherwise it consists of rehashed quotes from Clive Barker, Doug Bradley, etc. I'm not sure if there was anything other than what was printed on the first and last pages which was original. I'm a big fan of Hellraiser, which is why I bought the book, but at 9 quid (or the 13 quid of the RRP) even my die-hard patience has been stretched. If you want a book which goes in depth - and at times a little too in depth - I highly recommend "The Hellraiser Films and Their Legacy" by Paul Kane. A little pricey, but it covers pretty much everything, and as of the date of this review it's pretty much the only book on the market worthy of having "Hellraiser" in its title. My analysis of this book is that it was intended to be a mere space-filling collectible for die-hard fans, and was perhaps representative of a Hellraiser milestone of the time, neither of which is a good enough reason for me to have parted with my cash, certainly not given the utterly unimpressive content of its 96 pages.

I think if you are a Pinhead fan, you'll enjoy this book.,

There are excellent photos from the movies, especially of Pinhead. There isn't a lot of text so if you're buying it for that reason, you'll be disappointed. There is a good write up in the last chapter about the characters and how the story evolved. I highly recommend this to Hellraiser fans. By the way, the author's name is Clive, not Clyde.

An excellent companion to the first 3 movies,

This review is from: Hellraiser Chronicles (Paperback)
A magazine-sized trade paperback, the Hellraiser Chronicles is packed with tons of quality pictures from the first 3 films. Want to examine the difference between the Chatterer and the Chatterer II? It's all here in gory detail. The book also contains a lengthy introduction by Clive Barker and an article on special F/X in the Hellraiser movies by Stephen Jones. Any fan of the series will love this book.
