This disc of the first Hellraiser's fantastic Christopher Young score appeared before the 2003 collection Hellraiser: The Chronicles. Both are sadly out of print, but if you're thinking about spending these prices for a used copy on Amazon, track down the Chronicles collection--it's way worth it.
Hellraiser benefited tremendously by Young's score, which intensified the creepy, gothic feel of the film, with it's calm strings and dark, dark rumblings. The entire disc is excellent, not much 'filler' score, but rather a deep score that underlines Barker's whacky themes of love and death and hell and guys with really painful costumes. The Hellraiser theme is gorgeous.
Highly recommended to film score buffs in general, not just Hellraiser fans. Don't let the guy with the pins in his head and the flesh hooks deter you, this is a great score by a tremedous talent. Skip this disc and go for the remastered Chronicles, which include Hellbound, and Randy Miller's Hell on Earth scores. They should bring these back in print, period. Are they teasing us?
