Mose Allison’s new album and ANTI- debut The Way of the World arrives March 23rd, 2010, marking his return to the recording studio after a 12 year absence. Working with maverick producer Joe Henry, Allison has found his most sympathetic setting in years, surrounded by young, vibrant players, who add surprising slide guitar and some sinewy saxophone to the classic Mose sound; The Way of ... Originally recorded (and bought on vinyl by me) in 1969 my vintage copy had come to the point where some of the tracks were not playing properly so I've replaced it with this re-mastered version. At the time, and subsequently many Mose Allison fans seemed to think that the arrangements detracted from the basic skills that Mose brought to his recordings, namely droll wit and great and unusual piano playing. I disagree, in the whole of his output he experimented with a wide range of settings, of which this album represents just one - big(ish) band arrangement. I think that this album still stands up, and the band full of luminaries, too many to mention in detail, provide a wonderful backdrop for some strong songs and inventive piano playing. Standouts, after all this time, for me are "I don't want much" (I empathise with the sentiment)the exquisite "No exit" (great piano playing) and " Somebody got to move", but the whole album is treat, full of unexpected twists and turns. If you're used to the piano trio work that Mose excelled in, this might just illustrate another side of the huge talent of a consummate artist.

I had this record many years ago and I finally decide to get it on CD. Mose has some great supporting musicians on this CD.

This album is an old favorite of mine. I had the vinyl back in the seventies when it came out. Mose Allison is an unappreciated musician and song writer with a very wry wit.

hi there 17 Feb. 2007

In this quite special moment of expression, Mose leaves the tracks of a more regular performing into a mood that gives form and expresses the subtle of a particular experience of being.

This recording reveals in a special way the situation of being one who understand him as relations with a mysterious world that surrounds him , conforms himself and at the same time is different that him.

The relation between individual beings and the world that is a whole, the notion of points of consciousness inside a whole which is one and unconscious, is a meditation which repeats along Mose's speech throughout his recordings and may be specially expressed in songs like "The fires of spring" (as the whole) or "Mocking bird" (as the individual and his particular stage of self-consciousness).

Mose creates the world, his world, and himself as his particular way of experiencing this relationship. The music is at times slightly diverted into tones which strikes like a revelation, maybe in this time Mose also got closer to free jazz resonances that in other records.

The music is the body of the sensation, and it's taste is the experience itself and the understanding.

In this record, Mose gets specially tuned to that universe to which he salutes every time he speaks and do music. As he said, "The earth wants you"(what such a nice idea, mose is great in the way he can make great ideas happen in you).

Kind Regards,
