one of the best things i heard, 16 Jun 2003
i bought 'haunted' poes 2nd album before this album, it was avalibilty that made me do it, i over played Haunted and eventually set about hunting down more poe albums...Hello was at first filed under 'angry fem-rock' after my first listen, i ignored it for a while, then i had to put on my end of year exhibition (art student!) and i needed something that reflected my work, i decided on this album because of the first impressions, and i guess over those weeks the music has moulded around me making me smile and making me generally want more poe it's an album of many tastes, it has jazz referances and a little fem-rock going on and there are some great juicy lines that i love to sing as loud as i can. i think that poe's voice is unbelieveable, after hearing haunted i was hooked but to see that she had that raw and smooth natural singing talent from the start makes me love her more. the album cant be summed up in many way i guess it's an introduction to POE at the time of recording, she's got alot of angst and vents alot of sexual and gender frustration on some tracks... as well as the feeling of being trapped being her, behing female perhaps against a male world, or being trapped because of a famous older brother. i felt that she vented a few demons in the songs and it helped me vent some of my own. i would consider listening to this album if you like experimental music, i would without question buy it if you liked haunted, if your also into carina round, Liz phair or tegan and sara this is a good album to add to your collection my fav songs... dolphin and that day for the honesty and killer lines :)
