Biography

Selling records and winning awards are the things that have always come easy to Phil Collins. He has sold 100 million solo records and another 150 million with Genesis, putting him in the same rarefied league as Madonna, Elton John and Pink Floyd. His numerous awards include seven Grammys, two Golden Globes and an Oscar (for You’ll Be In My Heart from Disney’s Tarzan).

Yet, by his own admission,… Read more in Amazon's Phil Collins Store

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

If you are considering divorcing a rock star, let Hello, I Must Be Going! serve as fair warning of what you're likely to face once the papers have been signed and the settlements made. Collins got the last word on sundering his relationship with first wife Jill (he actually addresses her by name on the album!) and managed to deliver it to millions of homes via this album, which contains one blistering diatribe after another: "I Don't Care Anymore", "I Cannot Believe It's True", "Do You Know, Do You Care?" and "It Don't Matter to Me". The mood is tempered a bit by a lively remake of the Supremes' "You Can't Hurry Love" and "Like China", a sprightly rocker celebrating new love. Yet as listenable and engaging as it is, Hello, I Must Be Going! has to be regarded as one of the angriest albums in mainstream rock history, which is great stuff, when you're in the mood for that sort of thing. --Daniel Durchholz

This is by far and away the most exciting Phil Collins solo LP. After a tentative start with Face Value, Collins found his feet and his inner confidence and fired off in all sorts of interesting directions. The song writing is much tighter, the lyrics astonishing (providing you aren't on the receiving end of some of them - ouch) and most of all the drum sound is one of the biggest ever committed to vinyl / CD. This LP counts as one of the great lost Genesis LPs in the same way that Steve hackett's 'Voyage of the Acolyte' did in 1975.

You don't have to be a fan of Phil Collins to appreciate this album. Your ears will tell you that it is very far away from the saccharine housewives' choice wallpaper formula of 'Another Day in Paradise' and its partners in crime. It is a very enjoyable listen and the brass section really is razor sharp.

If you are a Phil collins fan then you will know just how brilliant this album really is!

I personally listen to it all the time. every track is as good as the last.

If you haven't already bought it, get it now and savour the excellent writing and singing talent of the master.

I've not heard this in years, then the other day got the drums from the opening track into my head and couldn't shake them so I thought I'd have a listen. Read more

A forgotten classic?
This album tends to be overlooked...probably even by Phil Collins fans and it was also, commercially his least successful album of the '80s, reaching only no. Read more

Worth listening to for one or two special tracks.
For the most part, I find this C.D. weak compared with his more recent material, but I do love the track "Don't let him steal your heart away". Read more
