I can wholeheartedly recommend this book. The time and love that has been put into it is clear on every page. It serves as a thoroughly compelling & historically accurate account of the man himself. If, like me, you were raised as a child on the wireless majesty of Cuddly Ken, or were merely a fan of his TV shows, you will enjoy reading about the anarchic adventures of your favourite DJ & comedian. It really has brought back some fabulous memories.

I only really remember Kenny Everett from his TV shows. I lived for my weekly dose of Cuddly Ken and, in the days before video recorders were a household item, I would jam my tape recorder up to the TV and make audio recordings of the show. I'd play them over and over again throughout the week to learn the sketches and giggle at the naughty bits.
So this new and authorized biography of Kenny Everett is a real treat because I knew little or nothing about his pioneering work on radio. And it really was pioneering, with elaborate jingles and complicated spicing of bits of tape, to make his shows sound like nothing we'd ever heard before. Even his answer machine message had a four part harmony on it!
This book revels in his career, his amazing technical ability, his skill as a DJ, then his move to TV and how he broke new ground in comedy. It doesn't shy away from the sackings and the private life but that's all told without scandal or titillation because primarily this is a biography by Everett fans for Everett fans.
In fact this is the book fans of not just Kenny Everett but of broadcasting, comedy, music and laughter have all been waiting for.
Even if you only vaguely remember Sid Snot throwing cigarettes in the air in the vain hope he'd catch one in his mouth, or Cupid Stunt's enormous comedy boobs and wildly exaggerated leg crossing, or even if you don't, this book is a joy because that was what Kenny Everett was, an absolute joy!

After being a life long fan of Kenny Everett I had to read this book. Kenny's autobiography "The Custard Stops At Hatfield" left me feeling there must of been more to the man than he let on and this book confirms it.
Packed with anecdotes from start to finish and narrated in an engaging way, I feel the mystery behind the man is revealed. Warts and all narrative of a guy frequently walking a fine line between genius and madness, this has been undoubtedly my favourite book of the year.

This biography is the most complete overview of Kenny's character and career with all the background you could wish for on this amazingly gifted entertainer. The writers have done a thorough research job with memories of Kenny culled from the pals and professionals who knew him best. His crazy concoctions on radio and TV are well known to those who heard and saw him but this book delves a whole lot deeper into his interests, and his interactions with the people who were closest to him including fellow broadcasters, writers, producers plus the many stars who called him friend. Absorbing and fascinating as the man himself, this book is a FAB read.

I tend to read mostly biographies on my Kindle devices. I don't know if it's the author's prose style or that Kenny led a particularly interesting life, but this book was one of the most enjoyable biographies I've read in ages and genuinely moving towards the end.

Not being a big radio listener it was Kenny's breakout TV show for ITV in the late 70s that first really brought him to my attention. After reading this book I wish I had followed his radio career more closely as Kenny seems to have been tailor-made for the medium.

Not that "The Kenny Everett Video Cassette" was his first TV show, far from it. The book covers several early efforts, including a TV magazine style show he did in the late 60s with Germaine Greer(!). Quite a popular show it seems, a kind of precursor to "That's Life"..

Well worth a read if you remember Cuddly Ken with affection. A good Kindle version too, with practically none of the duff formatting that often creeps into poor conversions. A good photo section too.

This is probably one of the best researched biographies I've ever read and huge plaudits go to the authors for their detailed, thorough and innovative research - their huge love of Everett and his work clearly shine through. After watching the BBC4 drama 'All In The Best Possible Taste' I had a good idea about Everett's life story, but this filled in much of the detail. The story goes something like this: young Catholic boy brought up in Liverpool, square peg in a round hole until he finds that he excels in making surreal and bizarre recordings, gets a job as a DJ, sacked for a specified reason x 20 - TV success, wrestling with sexuality = contentment then sad demise.

That said, it's nice to read how much he's still missed in the radio community. I would also defy anyone to read about his final days without shedding a tear. An excellent book.

Brought back some golden memories of Kenny. Not surprising when you consider the impressive list of people interviewed by the authors. It makes for a great read.
Great photos too.

Highly recommended. If you're interested in British broadcasting, this is a well written and sourced biography. Very readable, and as someone who grew up with Kenny certainly during his TV fame I learned a lot about the man that I didn't appreciate before. One of my better purchases in 2013 and will certainly be looking at other titles by the auhor
