In my very humble opinion, this might be the very best Hellboy story ever!
Never mind the fact that Hellboy creator Mike Mignola isn't handling the art: New Hellboy artist Duncan Fegredo does a fantastic job and soon you won't think about the change in the atwork department anymore. Until you reach the end and realise you haven't missed Mignola's unique art one bit!
But this means his writing has a better chance to shine than ever. So he basically cuts loose with a roller coaster plot that barely slows down in the first issues, involving Hellboy being handed over by a council of very pissed off witches to the worst of them all: Baba Yaga, an evil hag who holds a grudge against our hero that knows no bounds. Hellboy's trademark sarcastic bits have little room to shine, but you'll laugh out loud when you read his conversation with the little Russian home protector spirit!
This long fight for his life will prevent Hellboy from stopping events in England to precipitate to the point that Fairies now wage war against man...
This is a fantastic book that can't help but leave you wanting for more! Well done, Mike & Duncan!
