Mad Dog Shorty. Dirty Slim. Dinky Shore. Bull Gandy. Gray Older. The list goes on and on. They’re all dead now, killed by Lonesome Red or each other.
Some say they were last seen riding the Hellbound Express to its next stop on the route to hell.
Others say the Hellbound Express was just a story Jinx Jenkins made up to amuse himself and scare others.
Maybe it doesn’t matter. Grubline Gip said it didn’t make much difference how a sinner got to hell, whether he arrived on the Hellbound Express or some other way.
It didn’t make much difference to Lonesome Red how they got to hell, as long as they got there.
Want to the ride the Hellbound Express? They say it’s waiting near the wild western town of Dead Man Pass for those who are a little too slow on the draw.

The hellbound express follows him around picking up them who are destined for hell. The story seemed a bit strange at first but it is all explained in the last chapter

3.0 out of 5 stars Holt to Excess 20 Sep 2013

I recently started reading Van Holt, and think he is one of the very best authors of Westerns. Hellbound Express is not the best of his efforts. I have heard that for every strength we have we have a weakness resulting for the excessive use of our strength. Holt is great at character development and maintaining multiple plot line. IN this one he went nuts, too many complex characters and plot lines resulting in a slower less engrossing read.
