Product Description

From the Publisher

When asked to publish this our reaction was no not another phobia book about spiders and snakes. But this one is a totally new concept letting the sufferer tell us how it feels to live a life dominated by Social Phobia and the terrible destruction it caused in his life. this will become a milestone in Phobia books.

From the Author

I worked with Steve Conway for over a year going back in detail over his lonely tragic but very brave life. He left nothing out in the hope it will help other phobics. As he said 'At last a Phobic tells what it's like'. I feel proud to know him and above all tell his story.

5.0 out of 5 stars "WILL GIVE HOPE TO ALL SUFFERERS", 19 Sep 2008
This review is from: The Hell of Social Phobia: One Man's 40 Year Struggle (Paperback)
"WILL GIVE HOPE TO ALL SUFFERERS"

This is what I have waited years for a book written by someone who has suffered a lifetime of social phobia and tried every cure going. It's written from the heart. Steve Conway knew all the big name stars of the 1960's He even took Frank Sinatra for a spin in his new sports car, but because of his phobia he ends up begging on the streets with his dog and you will feel as I did that your walking those streets with him and his faithful friend. After 40 years he finds a cure that only a sufferer could discover. I warn you you'll laugh and cry your way through this strange incredible story. If you ever read this Steve you went through hell on earth but I'm so pleased you made it, you give hope to all sufferers.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good and informative read, 18 Dec 2011
This review is from: The Hell of Social Phobia: One Man's 40 Year Struggle (Paperback)
I thought this was a good read and displayed a lot of informative information on the illness and described a lot of it's "hell". However the cure at the end was a bit disappointing. It's easy to begin to "love yourself" if you have a normal brain chemistry but when you have depressive and anxiety disorders it's really difficult to change thoughts.

This review is from: The Hell of Social Phobia: One Man's 40 Year Struggle (Paperback)
This is a gem of a book which precisely reflects the everyday experience of social phobia so much better than the quasi medical and 'self help' manuals. Yet in the end it offers a chink of light. The writer Terry Cunningham and the sufferer Steven Conway have managed to combine to produce an easily readable and thoroughly engrossing biography which paints a vivid picture of the horror of this little recognised condition and it's effects on not only the sufferer but just about everyone they come into contact with. It is indeed a sad story but it is nevertheless full of humour, love and hope and every single reader will learn from the shared experience. It should be compulsory reading for anyone involved in the medical or welfare/social supporting services.
