In the third instalment of this urban fantasy series, it has been 2 years since thousands of demons, imps, damned souls and other Hellraised were released onto the streets of North Carolina. God has just gone on holiday leaving Gabriel in charge, and a couple of Angels are making use of the change in management to break God's contract, go to Earth and try and redeem their best friend Averial who Fell with Lucifer.
During those somewhat chaotic times 2 years earlier Averial; the original Devil's Advocate who represented Lucifer during that first Misunderstanding snook away from Hell and her absence has only just been noticed. Of course Lucifer is a mite unhappy that another Fallen Angel could escape his clutches, so sends out his minions to hunt her down and return her to Hell for punishment. Running in conjunction with this is the story of Rhea and Jack, who are both working towards designing and running a manned spaceship, but time and money is a huge problem.
Like book 2, there are plenty of twists and turns to the plot that leave the reader wondering how it can all pan out; although the human identity of Averial is a no brainer, but this is revealed early on in the story. The ending however was very much unexpected and one that I didn't really enjoy. Yes the final chapter is sweet; however the Happy Ever After Ending is not conventional at all and not an outcome I anticipated or wanted.
