Melbourne-born singer-actress-feminist Helen Reddy had her first taste of chart success stateside in the summer of 1971 with the Time Rice/Andrew Lloyd-Webber song "I Don't Know How To Love Him" shortly after her husband manager Jeff Wald had succeeded in securing a recording contract with Capitol Records. The subsequent release "I Am Woman" which she co-penned, seemed to sink into oblivion when prominent feminists became aware of it, and rang in DJs requesting them to play the song. All the air play eventually helped push the 45 r.p.m. disc to the very top of the US singles charts. "I Am Woman" won her a Grammy for which she thanked God saying "She made it all possible!" The Australian-American songstress had two more chart toppers: "Delta Dawn" (1973) and "Angie Baby" (1974). Between 1971 and 1977 Helen Reddy notched up no less than 15 US Top 40 hits of which 9 made the Top Twenty. Despite having a great voice and some truly great songs, Helen Reddy has strangely enough remained a one-hit-wonder in the UK with Alan O'Days terrific "Angie Baby".
The set almost keeps what its title promises: "Greatest Hits (and More)": Leon Russell's "Bluebird" which crested # 35 and the other half of the double-sided hit "I Can't Hear You No More" - "Music Is My Life" - have been omitted and as for the "(and More)" only two tracks have been added: the brilliant "The Happy Girls" (which she co-wrote) and "Make Love To Me". All songs are superbly arranged and excellently performed and the overall sound is pristine. There are no liner notes, which is a pity. The talent that is Helen Reddy had deserved a worthy presentation. Whether you're a fan or someone curious who wants to be introduceed to a great artist, this set is very commendable.

I've been meaning to buy Helen Reddy's greatest hits for some time and was delighted when I came across this CD as it has all the tracks I love from the original hits album and (as it says on the cover) more. Excellent value!

I often used to play this album in the 70s on a vinyl LP when I had friends around. It was so good to hear these songs again.

A trip down memory lane!!!! I'd forgotten how powerful the lyrics of the songs are. Work seems much easier when I'm listening (and singing along) to some of my favourite tracks. An excellent buy.
