Book Description

Angelo Bastillo has just started high school, and already his life is over: dumped by the dream girl he's been crushing on for years, hating every class, terrorized by twin bullies, and forced to consult a suicide line in lieu of therapy by his overprotective (and incredibly cheap) father. Then he, his best friend Drew Wales and the geeky new kid in school, Lionel "Porno Name" Tang, stumble upon a secret cache of dirty money that can make them rich -- if they can only find a way to steal it. So, they decide to put together a team.

Meet their crew: Portia Wentworth, gorgeous drama club temptress with a secret, now turned con artist. Kyle Williams is their hitman-for-hire computer hacker with a heart of stone. And Charles Crewel, the "nice guy" star football player sidelined with a season ending injury? Well, he's the muscle of the operation -- all 283 bone-crunching pounds of him. When the team adds the suspect assistance of a mysterious senior class mastermind known only as "The Saint", all the pieces begin to fall into place.

Now Angelo is ready to plan an incredible heist to pull off the big score. Everyone is counting on him. But with his daily life full of complicated boy/girl drama, depression, sub-minimum wage "character building", completely unnecessary pop quizzes, and a truly unhealthy but incredibly satisfying amount of videogames, can he finish the job and still manage to finish freshman year?

This "entertaining and brilliantly comic novel"* is sure to appeal to teens, fans of young adult literature, crime buffs, people who still keep old episodes of Leverage on their Tivo (even though their hard drive is getting pretty full) -- basically anyone who ever went to high school and wished it could have been just a little bit more thrilling and a whole lot funnier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Read! 19 Mar. 2014

What a bazaar and amusing story! This book reminded me of Ocean's Eleven and The Goonies. Three guys in high school find a mobile phone which has lots of coded messages which after decoding, they find out are drug deals. The guy who owns the phone ended up in prison without collecting the last load of money from the drug deal so these three guys decide to put a team together to get the nineteen thousand dollars that has been hidden in the old school building. Add to that, all the typical high school drama thrown in, and you have a very fun filled book.

I found it to be a rather enjoyable but amusing book and i couldn't help but love it and the three guys, Angelo, Drew and Lionel are just so funny and i couldn't help but love each of them. I will admit that the story did take a while to get going but after it did, it was truly enjoyable. I would love to read a follow up from this book to see what else these guys will try to do. Great Read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable characters and story-Well worth the time to read 7 Dec. 2013

I used to teach middle and high school. I still tutor so I like to keep up with YA books. I read this while proctoring a test and didn't put it down. It was fun to read and it made what was going to be a boring couple of hours fly by for me. The characters are very well written and teens (both male and female) would relate and truly enjoy the story. For that matter, adults will enjoy it too! I genuinely look forward to reading more from Gallauresi.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Well Crafted Mystery Thriller 8 Dec. 2013

This is a well crafted story and I absolutely enjoyed reading it from start to finish. It's an absorbing and attention-grabbing work that had me engaged from the beginning. The story flows from scene to scene effortlessly, and the author shows exceptional ability when it comes to storytelling.

The story had every element a good story should have. An exciting plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. This interesting and compelling work, as I said, had my attention from the beginning. There are twists and turns in this page turner that will take the reader on an intriguing journey. Also, the writing style is straightforward which makes for an enjoyable read.

It's one of those stories that come along once in a while that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. The author has the ability to entice the reader to want to know more as the story progresses. And, this is a skill that is possessed only by a few.

I'm giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery! However, I will say this; it's one of the most imaginative and well written books I've read in a while.

You can't do wrong with this one - I'd highly recommend it!

This book was very well written. It made me want to continue reading and I was surprised at how enjoyable of a read this was. This book was very realistic and you could tell the author knew what they were talking about. It took me back to those days and I can't wait to read another one.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Give me a movie title and I'll come up with a porno parody of it." 6 Dec. 2013

Angel finds an old cell phone in his school locker and figures out it belonged to a drug kingpin who used to rule the high school. Angel and his friends decipher the texts and determine there's thousands of dollars hidden somewhere in the old school building. It's theirs for the taking, but it won't be easy, there are others looking for it. Angel seeks help outside of his circle from an infamous senior, but is "The Saint," trustworthy?

While this plot is happening, the usual high school drama is also going on. Angel has to deal with bullies, his girlfriend dumping him, and all of the other typical problems of being a teen. There is so much going on in this story, it seems it would make your head spin, but the author does a great job of keeping everything in order and tying up all the loose ends. There are some really fun characters in this story, my favorite was Portia, she reminded me of someone I knew in school.

Gallauresi ends the story nicely, but gives us the hope of a sequel. I've signed up on the email list to be notified when the new adventure is out, I don't want to miss it. I hope Portia is there!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! 6 Dec. 2013

I'm a high school teacher, so I'm very familiar with what happens in high school on a daily basis. The author has been able to capture and describe e the feeling of being in high school extremely well. While reading I could believe that I was in just about any typical high school in the country.

I enjoy reading YA fictions, partially because I'm always looking for something my students will enjoy, and partially because I enjoy them myself, and this book was no exception. It is extremely well written, and it captures the essence and the tumult a typical high school student experiences as things in their world change and shift, not always to their liking.

The characters are very well developed and believable. The storyline flows flawlessly and grabs your attention from the first page. There is lots of action, and a nice blend of emotional twists and turns, and best of all, you could allow a Middle Grade student to read it, and not worry that the content is inappropriate.

You don't have to be a fan of the YA genre to enjoy a well written book, and this is a well written book. I highly recommend.
