Ringo Shiina is surely the greatest musical talent in Japan for decades, and this album (her soundtrack to the film 'Sakuran') is her greatest album. Surprisingly it's not all original material, but instead are new versions of some of her older material. I would usually shun such remixes as pointless fluff, but these tracks are truly outstanding. The genius here is how the originals (which were rock tracks) have been re-imagined as big band/jazz/orchestral tracks, and they work far better than they did in their original guise.
In short, this is the best CD in years. I really can't recommend it highly enough.
