Review

As with everything about Vanessa, she has generously opened up her heart and soul to share her fascinating life story and the lessons she has learnt along the way. Her story shows that with self awareness and emotional intelligence, you can triumph through any adversity to fulfil your ambitions. Her tips for success are pragmatic and easy to follow, as she says don't just survive it, thrive in it! --Fleur Bothwick, OBE | Ernst & Young, Director of Diversity & Inclusive Leadership - EMEIA

There is so much that can be learnt from Vanessa's journey - she is an inspirational role model and her story shows that we can achieve anything if we are bold enough to dream it and brave enough to work hard earning it. --Ruby McGregor-Smith, CBE, CEO, MITIE Group PLC

Vanessa's personal story reads like a roller coaster ride with dynamic cast of characters, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out what happened next! Her advice to others clearly comes from the heart as well as from considerable experience. I'm sure she will inspire the next generations coming through to think about their career and life plans in different ways. --Birgit Neu, MD, Neuchange

A very good story and quite candid. Very inspiring to see how such a woman has worked through the ranks of the corporate world and how she has made her mark. It's nice to see how it is half autobiographical and half advice so you can see how and when such advice would have helped. Her advice and tips are really useful, packed with useful resources and ideas that I am using straight away. I will be buying a copy for my niece who is about to enter the office world for the first time and hopefully she can use some of the tips. A must read!

I read this book overnight in a hotel in Leeds. I'd travelled up from London to speak at a conference. I had been invited to speak and yet still I'd had to silence those doubts about whether I was good enough to be there. In this book, Vanessa Vallely speaks from the heart to all of us whoever wonder whether we are good enough, wonder whether we will ever get 'there' (you know, the ultimate destination, the C-suite or our profession's equivalent) She reminds us that sometimes 'there' might change along the way, as our goals shift along with our experience, knowledge and circumstances.
I found this book to be very easy to read, very relatable and full of what I needed to hear, to support me in continuing to go forward positively. I would recommend it to everyone - men and women, regardless of sector - who is ambitious and wants the benefit of someone else's experience of creating a career path that works for them.

Truly Inspiring - Must read for anyone wanting to climb the corporate ladder!
I found the book to be truly inspiring. It was humbling to hear of Vanessa's struggles and triumphs in the corporate world. Delivered in a very down to earth tone the book just flowed. I loved the peaks and troughs of this book from hilarious blunders to heart breaking intense moments of pure honesty. I was gripped from the 1st page and could not put it down. I have since read the book again for all the guidance and advice she offers. If you're looking for something to motivate and inspire you then this is the book for you! Her sheer determination is incredible. Thank you for sharing your story Vanessa.

Vanessa's story is very heartfelt and engaging, making this an easy read for a busy person. It's also very inspiring, how she has overcome setbacks and kept on following her dream. The back section is full of useful hints and tips on how to network more effectively and get your career on track. I wish i'd had this book when I was starting out on the career ladder! It has also made me think more about giving back (which Vanessa is clearly great at). I don't just mean the charitable stuff, but giving a leg up to my other female colleagues, particularly those who haven't had the kind of start that I benefitted from.

Vanessa puts her heart and soul into sharing her inspirational journey and proves that women really can have it all, but not without it's challenges. I loved reading this book and couldn't put it down until the very last word. This book has filled me with inner strength and the motivation to keep going, thank you Vanessa for your authenticity and revealing all. As a double bonus the second half of this book provides you with many tips for career success and I can vouch for them all, take them on board and put them into practise today. Vanessa's book was such a great read that I finished it in two days. It was so inspiring that I instantly drafted a new plan to change my carrier and started to build my network. I was lucky enough to participate on one of Vanessa's seminar events and she is even more encouraging in person, a great motivational speaker!
I already received such a positive feed back from my new network contacts, amongst them Vanessa, that I recommended her book to all of my friends and fellow professionals who want to exploit their ambition and build a carrier with a balanced family life!
Thank you Vanessa!

I bought this book just under a week ago after seeing and hearing about it over the last few months.

I really, really enjoyed this book. Having read many 'business minded' books before which are normally dull as dishwater by the 2nd chapter this was far superior and I think it is because of the way it has been written i.e. half biography & half advice based on the personal story you have just read.

I really, really admire Vanessa and all her achievements. She really is an incredible woman and has been completely honest about the trials and tribulations of her corporate career - if only more women or men for that matter were more honest about what really goes on...

I personally am in the corporate world and have seen things and behaviour that would make your Granny quiver in her dressing gown but in the same token it can be an exceptional world to work in as Vanessa rightly points out. Good and bad parts to every industry I guess. I really enjoyed the stories she tells from her own career and how that impacted her life on a personal level and also including family on her career decisions which many people fail to do.

Any career woman should be able to easily relate to this book and the story. The book is packed full of tips from cover to cover and will I am sure be seen as the 'bible' for women who are looking to get ahead.
